Dog Whisperer With Cesar Millan: The Complete Second Season
Dog Whisperer With Cesar Millan: The Complete Second Season In the second season of The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan shows his breadth of abilities of working with all kinds of problem pooches, gently asserting his dominance over the dogs and gaining their trust. For example, pity poor Booker. The handsome Hungarian Vizsla was born in a quiet pocket of rural Southern California, and ever since moving to bustling downtown Long Beach with his doting owner has been terrified of, well, pretty much everything. On his daily walks, Booker cowers, lurks, bolts, and otherwise is utterly miserable at the sight of baby strollers, rollerbladers, a random garbage can that wasn't there yesterday. Enter Millan, who's able to coax Booker out of his paralyzing fear--in part by physically holding his tail out from between his legs. This position "makes him feel pride," Millan says, and sure enough, Booker begins to hold his head up, too, and act calmer.

In some cases the transformations are nothing short of incredible. Buddy ("the Biter"), a Papillon-corgi mix, is a sweet, loving dog one minute, and a savage biting machine the next. After seeing how Buddy treats his owners, you wouldn't want to get into the same room with him, yet Millan gently approaches the dog and sits on the floor next to him, inching closer until he's touching a very mellow-looking Buddy. "Walk with a dog who's in a traumatic state," Millan advises, "and then when they calm down, show the love." And not a minute before. The boxed set includes five discs of the season's episodes, and extras including three new unseen stories, Millan's essential tips for dog owners (not to be missed) and a behind-the-scenes featurette. --A.T. Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo A delightful undersea world unfolds in Pixar's animated adventure Finding Nemo. When his son Nemo is captured by a scuba-diver, a nervous-nellie clownfish named Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks) sets off into the vast--and astonishingly detailed--ocean to find him. Along the way he hooks up with a scatterbrained blue tang fish named Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), who's both helpful and a hindrance, sometimes at the same time. Faced with sharks, deep-sea anglers, fields of poisonous jellyfish, sea turtles, pelicans, and much more, Marlin rises above his neuroses in this wonderfully funny and nonstop thrill ride--rarely does more than 10 minutes pass without a sequence destined to become a theme park attraction. Pixar continues its run of impeccable artistic and economic success (their movies include Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, and Monsters, Inc). Also featuring the voices of Willem Dafoe, Geoffrey Rush, and Allison Janney. --Bret Fetzer

Winnie the Pooh - A Very Merry Pooh Year
Winnie the Pooh - A Very Merry Pooh Year Pooh Bear and his pals in the Hundred Acre Wood celebrate Christmas and New Year's Eve in a pair of adventures folded into this 65-minute made-for-video feature. In the first, the silly old bear plays Saint Nick to his buddies ("I always thought he'd be taller") after failing to get an errant wish list off to Santa, while identity crisis strikes the gang in the second half. Piglet inherits Tigger's hop and jumps like a pogo stick, and Eeyore (dressed in Pooh's shirt) becomes a happy-go-lucky honey lover. Welcome to The Twilight Zone according to Winnie the Pooh. There's not much A.A. Milne in this TV-style holiday special, but it's a bouncy little production that should entertain the wee ones with its warm fuzzies, good company, slapstick energy, and life lessons. --Sean Axmaker

Resolved Question: California residents, will you be voting no on prop 8?
There are a lot of misleading lies out there about prop 8. Everybody needs to familiarize themselves with the facts and not the stories and theories your pastor thinks up. Here are some facts to consider: Fact: Not one word in Prop 8 mentions education. And no child can be forced, against the will of their parents, to be taught anything about health and family issues at school. California law prohibits it. California?s top educators including Superintendent of Schools Jack O?Connell and California Teachers all agree: Prop 8 has nothing to do with education. Fact: Nothing in Prop 8 would force churches to do anything. In fact, the court decision regarding marriage specifically says ?no religion will be required to change its religious policies or practices with regard to same-sex couples, and no religious officiant will be required to solemnize a marriage in contravention of his or her religious beliefs.? Fact: California gives parents an absolute right to remove their kids and opt-out of teaching on health and family instruction they don?t agree with. The opponents know that California law already covers this and Prop 8 won?t affect it, so they bring up an irrelevant case in Massachusetts. CA ISN'T EVEN COMPARABLE TO MASSACHUSETTS!! Fact: Prop 8 is about eliminating a fundamental right. Judges didn?t grant the right, the constitution guarantees the right. Proponents of Prop 8 use an outdated and stale argument that judges aren?t supposed to protect rights and freedoms. Prop 8 is about whether Californians are willing to amend the constitution for the sole purpose of eliminating a fundamental right for one group of citizens. Fact: California?s laws already prohibit discrimination against anyone based on race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. This has nothing to do with marriage. Fact: The University has publicly disassociated itself from Professor Richard Peterson of Pepperdine University, who is featured in the ad, and has asked to not be identified in the Yes on 8 advertisements. Fact: California law clearly gives parents and guardians broad authority to remove their children from any health instruction if it conflicts with their religious beliefs or moral convictions. I showed these facts to numerous people and after they read them, they all felt misled by their churches and the flawed campain of prop 8 supporters. They all decided to vote No..and those who had voted yes already, said they wished they could go back and change it. PROP 8 IS DISCRIMINATION. Overall, fully educate yourselves on the facts and vote for what you really feel is right. I agree, marriage is stupid and we should definitely be focusing on other things. Marriage shouldn't be a legal issue. It's a moral right. but the whole challenge on the constitution ticks me off. to the bible pusher.. yes, changes are definitely coming. if the prop doesn't pass, than i'm sure that there will be new props to sign and so forth..it is the nature of human civilization and evolution. If you want to extract morals/rights/whatever from the bible then why don't we talk about polygamy? better yet, what the bible truly states about the unity. unity is between a man and a 'virgin' LOL.. oh, and let's talk about the stoning of wives when their husbands are displeased with them.. or how a womans hand gets cut off if she grabs her husbands genitals.. LOL..let's also talk about the story of soddam and gamorrah (or however you spell that) the dude offers up his virgin daughters to the townsfolk instead of the male visitors in his home! is that the kind of god you choose to worship? one that says offer up your own daughters so that nobody gets sodomized?? because if there's some gay action going on, your city is gonna be destroyed? ..things that make you go hmm. There is marriage recognized by the church and there is unity recognized and accepted by society. It is not a specific 'religious right'. With the failure to accept people for their differences and the persistence of taking things away from them (just like what we did to black people) it will only lead to prejudice and hate crimes. Crime rate will go up..prisons will continue to be overcrowded with violent offenders. Why can't we just accept people and embrace them for their differences? If it is unity they want, and they are happy, why..why can't they have that?? and why can't we be happy for them? (more...)

Resolved Question: Was this sentence to light for this illegal?
This woman killed four innocent children, injured others, commited crime after crime while in this country and all they gave her was 12 1/2 years? Was this sentence even fair to the parents of those children? What do you believe her sentence should have been? If this illegal was not in this country four precious children would still be alive!!! Immigrant Driver Gets 12.5 Years in Fatal Bus Crash Wednesday, October 08, 2008 MARSHALL, Minn. ? A judge on Wednesday ordered a 12 1/2-year prison sentence for the woman convicted of four counts of criminal vehicular homicide in a school bus crash near Cottonwood. In sentencing Olga Marina Franco Del Cid, Lyon County District Judge David Peterson said the families of the Lakeview School children who were injured or killed in the Feb. 19 crash will continue to struggle. "Franco's sentence will end. For those parents dealing with injuries, it's a daily struggle. For the parents dealing with lost children, it's a lifetime of could-have-beens and might-have-beens that never will be," Peterson said. The families of the four children who were killed ? Jesse Javens, 13; his brother, Hunter Javens, 9; Emilee Olson, 9; and Reed Stevens, 12 ? all spoke during the hearing, which lasted more than two hours. The judge also heard from a family whose children were among the 14 people injured. Through an interpreter, Franco also made a statement, asking for forgiveness for using someone else's identity. She also asked for forgiveness for the crash, but still denied being the driver. Franco said that she's going through some of the same feelings as the victim's families, because she isn't able to be with her family. Franco's defense had tried to argue that her boyfriend was driving the van, and that he fled after the crash. He has not been seen since. But prosecutors argued during her trial that Franco had to be extricated from the driver's seat of the minivan, which hit the school bus after barreling through a stop sign. In August, a jury convicted Franco of all 24 counts against her. Franco still has the right to appeal to the Minnesota Court of Appeals. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,434621,00.html _________________ U.S. Rep Michele Bachmann comment ?Today, the families of four innocent Minnesota children who were killed in the Cottonwood bus crash earlier this year received an opportunity for some closure. Nothing will bring those precious kids back, but, Franco?s 12-year sentence is a small victory for justice? But we will do a great disservice to those families, and to those four children, if this tragedy doesn?t call us to action. Franco illegally entered this country and then broke our laws repeatedly while she was here. And, no action was taken against her until it was too late? When Congress returns to session next year I will resume my efforts to seal our borders and to build and maintain a stronger bridge of cooperation between local police and federal immigration authorities so this no family ever has to live through this again.? My problem with illegals is they do not belong here, they break the law, are ruining the economy, spread disease, lower education standards, steal I.D's, forge I.D's and are killing more and more citizens everyday. educate yourself!! From MSNBC: ?Americans should be told that diseases long eradicated in this country ? tuberculosis, leprosy, polio, for example ? and other extremely contagious diseases have been linked directly to illegals,? said Scottsdale Congressman J.D. Hayworth. ?For example, in 40 years, only 900 persons were afflicted by leprosy in the U.S.; in the past three years, more than 7,000 cases have been presented.? if I am these other ones you keep saying, then greasy, you and mando must be the same person. exactly we already have enough criminals we do not need illegal ones too! Resolved Question: White People: Do You Feel That The Media Is Too Bias When It Comes To Missing White Women And Children?
It appears to be White women and children that receive national media coverage: Natalee Holloway, Lacie Peterson, Chandra Levy, Caylee Anthony etc. The only time I hear stories about missing minority women and children is on Nancy Grace (kudos to her). What do you think the cause of this is? I obviously think it's racism, but some people argue that it's class. Whatever the case may be, I think the lives of minority victims are just as precious to their families as the White ones. @ Adam, who said it was the baby daddy? Resolved Question: Now that Obama has selected a VP, will he finally elect a "family dog"?
Now that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has chosen his running mate, it's time for him to concentrate on another important selection: family dog. "Most of our Presidents kept purebreds in the White House," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "When times get tough - during a bad economy or when presidential pressures are at their peak - these dogs serve as devoted and non-judgmental companions that bring joy and relaxation to our first families." The AKC launched its poll to find a breed for Obama (www.presidentialpup.com) after reports that - win or lose - the Obamas promised their two daughters a dog after the presidential election. More than 42,000 people cast their vote over the seven-week campaign. The Poodle clinched the nomination http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/28/americans-elect-poodle-as_n_122088.html ------- What would be your vote for his kind of dog? Resolved Question: Religious cause dead in more children
Colorado Children's Deaths Rekindle Debate on Religion By MICHAEL JANOFSKY ENVER, Feb. 20 ? The deaths over the last two years of three Colorado children whose parents denied them medical treatment on religious grounds has fueled support for state legislation that would prevent parents from using their religion as a defense against prosecution. The parents of all three children belong to the General Assembly and Church of the First Born, a small denomination that believes in prayer, rather than medical treatment, to cure illnesses and disabilities. Largely as a result of intense lobbying by the Church of Christ, Scientist, which also favors prayer over medicine, Colorado and 45 other states have statutes that allow parents to use their religious beliefs as a defense against prosecution for withholding medical treatment from their children. The exceptions are Hawaii, Massachusetts, Nebraska and North Carolina. But with evidence that dozens of other children of parents with similar beliefs may have died in the last 25 years in Colorado, this state has become one of the first to consider eliminating the religious exemption, which its opponents say sanctifies a form of child abuse. The effort has rekindled a debate here, pitting religious freedom against the rights of children. "I don't think freedom of religion should allow a child to die for not getting proper medical care," said State Senator Bob Hagedorn, a Democrat who is leading support in the Senate for a bill now under review in the House. The United States Supreme Court has ruled that parents do not have an absolute right to deny their children medical treatment on religious grounds, saying in a 1944 decision that while parents "may be free to become martyrs themselves," "it does not follow they are free, in identical circumstances, to make martyrs of their children." The court reprised the same thought in a 1990 case. But legal experts say that state and local officials have not seen the Supreme Court language as a clear directive for prosecution of child abuse and homicide cases. Congress did little to clarify the issue with a 1974 directive that required states receiving federal money for child abuse and prevention programs to have an exemption for parents who substitute spiritual healing for medical care. The requirement was rescinded nine years later, but by then, most states had enacted their religious exceptions, which effectively allow parents to treat ailing children through prayer without fear of prosecution if something goes wrong. Then in 1996, Congress seemed to reverse itself in the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, saying there was no federal requirement that a child must be provided "any medical service or treatment against the religious beliefs of the parent or legal guardian." In Colorado, for example, prosecutors have always been able to bring civil charges against parents who deny their children medical help under state civil laws. But few have, said State Representative Kay L. Alexander, the House Republican sponsoring the measure, which was approved 8 to 3 by the Criminal Justice Committee. Ms. Alexander said the exemption in the criminal code "has had a chilling effect" on local district attorneys. Leaders from many of the dozens of churches that favor prayer over treatment say they have ample proof their spiritual healing works as effectively as a visit to a doctor. Marvin Peterson, an elder of the church to which the families of the three dead children belong, said a member recently fell off a ladder and cracked open her skull. After elders prayed and anointed her with oil, he said, she recovered. "I've seen people healed of cancer, seen it with my own eyes," Mr. Peterson said, taking strong exception to critics who characterize the church as a cult. "We believe that if it's the Lord's will, you will rise up." While few critics of Mr. Peterson's church and other like-minded denominations argue with the right of parents to choose the manner of treatment for themselves, they assert that children have constitutional guarantees to medical care. For years, Rita Swan has been one of the leading voices on their behalf as founder of Children's Health Care Is a Legal Duty, an organization based in Sioux City, Iowa, that lobbies for removing the state exemptions. Once a Christian Scientist, Mrs. Swan said that in 1977 a church "practitioner" ? a member who is paid to pray ? told her and her husband after several weeks of prayer that their 17-month-old son, Matthew, was suffering from a broken bone. Since Christian Scientists are allowed to consult doctors for broken bones, the Swans took Matthew to a hospital, only to learn he was suffering from spinal meningitis. He died a week later. Mrs. Swan and Dr. Seth M. Asser, a pediatrician in San Diego, released a study in 1998 that found 172 cases of children dying between 1975 and 1995, more than 30 of them in Colorado, after their parents failed to get them medical treatment on religious grounds. Mr. Peterson responded, "Children also die in hospitals every day." Prosecutors have been loath to bring charges in many cases because of the ambiguities of the law and what they say are well-intentioned actions of parents whose religious beliefs are so strong that they prefer to put their children in the hands of God, rather than a doctor. Frank Daniel, the Mesa County district attorney, had jurisdiction in the cases of the three Colorado children who died. He won a conviction for criminally negligent child abuse, a felony, in 1999 against the parents of an 18-day-old infant who died of meningitis. He declined to prosecute the parents of a 3-day-old infant who died of a heart defect. He said today that he had yet decided what to do in the latest case, involving Amanda Bates, a 13-year-old girl who died of complications of diabetes two weeks ago. The county coroner, Robert Kurtzman, ruled her death a homicide. Copyright February 21, 2001 The New York Times Company Also see Religious cult won't acknowledge Child!
