Resolved Question: Open! Very Important! Do you support Israel's attack on Gaza?
Safa Joudeh is a journalist and resident in Gaza. READ THE WHOLE THING IT IS SOO WORTH IT! Now is the time to fight, from Safa Joudeh in Gaza: Last night (January 3rd), we realized that if there is any truth to Israeli WAR minister, Ehud Barak?s words, its that this invasion will be a long one. At approximately 9:15 pm local time Israeli Forces entered the strip from 3 Locations. From the east of Gaza city and the northern town of Jabalia and Beit Lahia, tanks rolled into the Palestinian residential areas while Israeli F16 created a cover from the sky. At the same time, Israeli tanks and infantry troops entered Rafah from the south east, while tanks shelling and artillery fire rained on the Mintar area of Gaza city. Israeli warships were simultaneously barraging Gaza city from the sea. The entire strip was surrounded and being heavily pounded by Israeli missiles and artillery fire. Many people were not even aware that the invasion had begun, thinking the whole time that Israel had intensified its air raids. The city of Gaza has been without power for a few days now and radio batteries were running out. Almost all the residents of Gaza city have been confined to their homes for over a week and all of the stores have been closed. People rely mostly on word of mouth to get the news, a very small few are lucky enough to have generators and leftover fuel. These attacks, this war is being waged against an unarmed civilian population at the most desperate and bleak time of times. Israel has been systematically and indiscriminately using its most advanced of military capabilities against a defenseless population, 3 quarters of which is women and children for 8 days prior to the invasion. People are weak, physically and morally, and dealing with a great amount of loss and frustration. This is to speak nothing of the 18 month siege that Gaza is currently barely able to hold up under. For the past few days we have seen over ten mosques, holy places of worship, bombed, frequently while people were praying inside. We have seen children being pulled out from under the rubble looking like there was not a single bone unbroken in their small bodies. We have seen hospitals overflowing with bloody corpses and people taking their last breaths. We have seen friends on television being resuscitated at sites of Israeli air raids. We have seen entire families swept of the face of the earth in one blow, and we have seen our streets, homes, neighborhoods become unrecognizable ruins from the amount of destruction. And yet Israel continues to blatantly and insistently affirm that the offensive is not aimed at the civilians and that its war is against political and military wings of Hamas. Meanwhile we, the people of Gaza, are collectively experiencing a kind of terror and violence no human being should ever endure One almost begins to suspect that the Israeli WAR forces are acting on a delusion that they created and that they have come to believe. Otherwise, they would have expected what would happen during their invasion of the Strip. Then again, it came as a surprise (a pleasant one) even to us, and that, should we have been in a right state of mind, we would have undoubtedly anticipated Israel has come into our homes, is fighting us in our streets and is expressing its brutality against us in full force. How do we react? All Palestinian factions have united and are out facing the enemy, using all the military capabilities that they collectively have. Although these capabilities are incomparable to the military strength exerted by Israel, yet it has made us more certain than ever that Palestinians will fight to the very end to protect their own. It has shown us that resistance, courage and love are an integral part of the Palestinian identity that will never change despite all the hardships we endure. It has given us a moral boost, which comes at a time when we need it most. The Abu Ali Mustafa brigades, of The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Alquds brigades of the Islamic Jihad movement. The Alqassam brigades of the Hamas movement. The Salah el Din Brigades of the Popular Resistance Committees, Al Aqsa Martyrs brigades of Fatah, all have come together as one united front and at a high, almost affirmed risk of peril are out protecting our streets and our homes, all ready to die if that means preventing the death of one more helpless child. We are united and we have accepted our fate recurrently, but Gaza?s almost 80% refugees will NOT be massacred and displaced yet again by people from the outside guided by tyranny and greed. There are estimations out there as to the collective count of the united military resistance fighters from the Palestinian factions, the number is thought to be a few thousand. The Israeli troops within and around Gaza at this moment are approximately 33 thousand, with more reservists being called in within the next day. The disparity is not only in troop nu (more...)

Resolved Question: As our doors open to more and more refugees how can we continue to ignore what happens in other countries....?
and expect that it will not change us and who we are? As such, do you not feel we owe it to the world to work as peace-keepers? I mean we have always done that as Canadians, but do you not feel it's even more important to keep the peace in other countries? Surely this war and destruction affects us all. We can no longer close our eyes and pretend the problem is "over there" and carry on. Why isn't everyone (world leaders) stepping up to the plate and making this issue the top priority? Where is the UN and NATO, those totally incompetent flakes!!! (more...)

Resolved Question: Who are the people that get offended when someone says "Merry Christmas"?
Especially if you're one of them, please. That way I'll know we're getting the right story about why you're offended. My theory is that the publicity generated by this kind of stuff is mostly coming from the rules and regs of department stores and media outlets, and they're being overly cautious about offending people that are....actually....nowhere to be found. So if you're one of those people or can provide information leading to their identity, please stand up and be counted. As of right now, my null hypothesis reflects my previous experience to this point: I haven't been able to find any of you. Oh, and the places I've looked so far are among some refugees from various countries, mostly Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and on a couple of atheist message boards. In every case- except with a funny little sockpuppet- I got a Merry Christmas in return followed by "You really think we'd do that?" (In all honesty, I didn't know what to expect. I wanted to find out. And I guess I did. But now I'm trying it again to see if I get different results. So help me out!) When it's around the time of Festivus and someone tells me "Happy Festivus!" I say it back, even though I don't celebrate it and, quite frankly, I think the Feats of Strength and Airing of Grievances are a little silly. But if someone wants to do that, what's it to me? It's probably not my business to tell them I don't take their holiday seriously, either. I can keep that to myself. At least I finally found some of the people I'm looking for, though. Thanks for your input. Good to know you're out there. (more...)

Resolved Question: Why aren't illegal Mexicans on Homeland Security's 5-year forecast?
Is it that they aren't a threat to the U.S. as some try to make it out to be? Do you think home grown terrorist are more of a threat then people that come here to work? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081225/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/homeland_threat_forecast Homeland Security forecasts 5-year terror threats WASHINGTON ? The terrorism threat to the United States over the next five years will be driven by instability in the Middle East and Africa, persistent challenges to border security and increasing Internet savvy, says a new intelligence assessment obtained by The Associated Press. Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear attacks are considered the most dangerous threats that could be carried out against the U.S. Long waits for immigration and more restrictive European refugee and asylum programs will cause more foreigners to try to enter the U.S. illegally. Increasing numbers of Iraqis are expected to migrate to the U.S. in the next five years; and refugees from Somalia and Sudan could increase because of conflicts in those countries, the assessment said. Because there is a proposed cap of 12,000 refugees from Africa, officials expect more will try to enter the U.S. illegally as well. Officials predict the same scenario for refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. (more...)

Resolved Question: What would you like Palestinian Refugees to do?
Hi, if you are jewish, please could you help answer this question: What do you expect Palestinians to do who are refugees? They had homes and were evicted, and now live in poverty. What do you suggest for them? The fact that they are "refugees" indicates that they have been evicted. i.e. They were given nothing for their properties. In fact, many still have the deeds to the houses they owned before the law of Return was implemented. Some say they should take care of themselves, but Israel has only flourished because America has taken care of you. That's all. You cannot deny that. They are all living in despair - they are fired at indiscriminantly by Israeli forces. Their children are mocked and thrown stones at. Israel has even apologised for killing innocent palestinians. A refugee cannot exist unless they were evicted, so don't tell me that they were given a fair chance. My question was this: How do you expect them to behave? What normal person wouldn't defend their land and their children? The UN agrees that they are refugees! So don't tell me (again!) that their homes were sold, as they STILL have deeds to their properties. (more...)

Resolved Question: The issue with Palestine and Israel.?
yesterday I posted a comment on here criticizing Israel due to it's inhumane policies and actions against Palestine.. My comment was removed from the boards..... this really bothers me. If Jewish people are unable to take criticism, what does that say about Palestine ever receiving justice? I feel like the issues between Israel and Palestine are utter insanity. Will Palestinians have to survive a genocide in order for Israel to feel safe? Why aren't Jewish people acknowledging the horrible atrocities happening to Palestinians? Or is this simply "ok" to overlook because Israeli's feel they "deserve" to be there? I am tired of hearing about Hamas and Palestinian "terrorists." Yes I am sure they are fighting for their land, who wouldn't when placed in a situation of colonization? Are they expected to just lay down and take it? It seems that is what many think, and when Palestinians do fight back, they are terrorists... What about the Israeli "settlers" taking Palestinian land against the United Nations agreement? is this not a form of terrorism? What about Israeli government closing the gaza strip so Palestinians are unable to get basic necesities, such as food? Is this not terrorism? And what of the wall being built to separate Israel and Palestine? What of the road blocks, checkpoints, and Palestinian refugee camps? Do they not feel they are being terrorized? I question the Jewish rationalization of all of this... I believe zionism is a form of hate. Repeating the horrible past of your own people's experience (the holocaust) is truly sickening. Is there any justification for people being starved, murdered and placed on reservations? Is there ANY? So why then, do so many of you justify it?.... (more...)

Resolved Question: Pentagon to recruit aliens?
WASHINGTON ? Struggling to find enough doctors, nurses and linguists for the war effort, the Pentagon will temporarily recruit foreigners who have been living in the United States on student and work visas, or with refugee or political asylum status. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has authorized the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps to recruit certain legal residents whose critical medical and language skills are "vital to the national interest," officials said, using for the first time a law passed three years ago. Though the military previously has taken recruits with green cards seeking permanent residency, Gates' action enables the services to start a one-year pilot program to find up to 1,000 foreigners who have lived in the states legally for at least two years on certain types of temporary visas. The new recruits into the armed forces would get accelerated treatment in the process toward becoming U.S. citizens in return for serving in the wartime military in the United States or abroad. "The services are doing a tremendous job of recruiting quality personnel to meet our various missions," sometimes with bonus pay and tuition for medical school, said Bill Carr, deputy undersecretary of defense for military personnel policy. But they haven't been able to fill their need for 24,000 doctors, dentists and nurses in the Defense Department. The Pentagon's doctor and nurse corps remain 1,000 short of the numbers needed to treat patients, and Carr said he hoped the program would fill the gaps. The military's most pressing need is for neurosurgeons and dermatologists to treat troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan with brain and burn injuries caused by insurgents' wide use of roadside bombs and suicide bombs. The force also lacks nurses with a broad range of specialties, Carr said. It also needs people with special language and cultural skills for a war on terrorism that has taken the armed forces across the globe. Though the military has been looking for more Arabic speakers and others to help with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the new program looks to recruit speakers of some three dozen languages, including Albanian, Korean, Punjabi, Somali and Turkish. The effort to find the recruits begins early next year. If there is a need for more recruits in the future, it would take a new authorization, Carr said. Of the 1,000 new people, at least a third must be medical professionals, Carr said. "It is exceptional, limited, vital," he said of the effort. The linguists are to be used in a broad range of military jobs ? as infantrymen, seamen and military police. Those with the best language skills would be used in intelligence fields. The armed forces have used foreigners since the War of 1812 ? over the years some 700,000 have served. But because of the counterterrorism war begun after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America, President George W. Bush signed an executive order in 2002 making foreigners who join the military eligible to apply immediately for citizenship. They essentially go to the head of the line among citizenship applicants, having their cases processed in about three years as opposed to the five years it takes others, Carr said. There are now 29,000 non-citizens in uniform today, Carr said, with about 8,000 more enlisting every year. He expects that among those who will be interested in the new effort are doctors with work visas who are working at hospitals around the country, a program aimed at tackling shortages among U.S. medical professionals. The military has never recruited non-green card holders, but a law passed three years ago lets them do so when it is determined to be vital to the national interest. On Nov. 25, Gates declared that to be the case for the purpose of getting more doctors, nurses and linguists. Carr stressed that recruits will have to pass the same physical, mental and aptitude tests required of all who join the armed forces. Health care workers also will have to meet all medical professional criteria to practice, be proficient in English, and agree to enlist either for three years on active duty or six years as reservists. The linguists/culture experts will have to enlist for four years of active duty service. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081205/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/military_recruiting When will the program be effective? Is it already started? To join with a language skill, will I need a college degree or some kind of certificate? (more...)

Resolved Question: why so much hatred towards brow skinned ppl?
hi...i would like to know, especially from white folks, as to why you hate brown skinned ppl so much? i have been living in the uk for almost a year now. i am a student. i paid good money seeking international exposure and education at the same time. i like to have drinks with my mates (mostly indians). when we go to pubs, people look with disgust. the bartender wont serve us unless there is no one else to serve. they dont even look at us and treat us very badly. i was expecting all these even before coming to uk. but to simply call us names and tease us when we are walking down the streets....its really disheartening. there hasnt been a single day when i havent been called a "fucking paki" or "go home you brown bastard"(i am indian by the way)... when i asked a couple of white guys as to why they hate us.....they gave me couple of crappy answers...they told me that mostly brown skinned ppl are terrorists and refugees. if we applied the same logic we should be thinking about white people as child molesters, serial killers and rapists as these are mostly common in western countries. but we are not ignorant or narrow minded to assume everyone to be the same. ... i know racism will never cease to exist...but why cant people be nice to each other for a change? even though i get treated by white folks badly...i dont hold that aginst everyone. i have met very nice people as well. this is what helps me to hold on. otherwise i would have left the country within a few months without even completing my education. Resolved Question: Which organization exceeds all others in caring?
Caring for and feeding the poor worldwide, reaching into prisons, helping refugees, community service and medical care, providing and maintaining resources that better millions of lives... through giving. No organization comes close to the work the Christian church does worldwide in these areas of need. Providing food, shelter, hope and meeting needs in life giving ways on every continent. Making a huge difference. It's not because of hate or manipulation, but genuine caring about every person... which is the manifestation of God's love that needs to be given away and shared, expecting nothing in return. This is the incredible value and true essence of the church, even with all of the distortion and corruption by people, God loves people and chooses to have people do his work. It is regrettable that it gets lost... when so much good is being done. How have you helped someone recently? (more...)
