Resolved Question: Would this system for a college football play-off work?
my idea of how college footballs play-off system would work..I'm gonna use the standings from this season..that might make it easier to understand.. first off: EVERYBODY needs to have divisions in their conference..(Big10, Big East, Pac-10, Mountain West, WAC and Sun-Belt all don't have divisions) second: put the independents in a friggin conference..(for the purpose of showing how this will work I'm putting Navy in the Sun Belt) ACC: Virginia Tech(9-4,5-3), Boston College(9-4,5-3) Big12: Oklahoma(12-1,7-1), Missouri(9-4,5-3) BigTen:Penn State(11-1,7-1), Ohio State(10-2,7-1) SEC:Florida(12-1,7-1(technically8-1)), Alabama(12-1,8-0(technically8-1)) Pac-10:USC(11-1,8-1), Oregon State(9-3,7-2) Big East:Cincinnati(11-2,6-1), Pittsburgh(9-3,5-2) Mountain West:Utah(12-0,8-0), TCU(10-2,7-1) C-USA:East Carolina(9-4,6-2), Tulsa(10-3,7-1) *Sun Belt:Navy(8-5), Troy(8-4,6-1)* *MAC:Buffalo(8-5,5-3), Ball State(12-1,8-0)* WAC:Boise State(12-0,8-0), Hawaii(7-6,5-3) The conferences with the worst overall win percentage are excluded from the playoffs..this will, in theory, make teams more interested in playing teams in other conferences and set up some intense match-ups(could you imagine how great it would've been if Florida and Oklahoma had played in the regular season?)..So the Sun Belt and MAC are out this season.. That leaves 18 teams..9 of which won their conference..So first off we separate these 18 into 2 groups..the champions and the non-champions..then they get seeded..this is based off of the overall record and strength of schedule(for sake of time and not wanting to check the sos I'm gonna just place them wherever)..The top 3 seeds will have bye's Group A-The Champions #1 seed-Utah #2 seed-Oklahoma #3 seed-Florida #4 seed-Boise State #5 seed-PennState #6 seed-USC #7 seed-Cincinnati #8 seed-VTech #9 seed-ECU Group B-The Runner-Ups #1 seed-Alabama #2 seed-Ohio State #3 seed-TCU #4 seed-Tulsa #5 seed-Missouri #6 seed-Boston College #7 seed-Oregon State #8 seed-Pitt #9 seed-Hawaii So the group A matchups would be 4 v 9 Boise State v ECU 5 v 8 PennState v Virginia Tech 6 v 7 USC v Cincinnati Utah has a bye Oklahoma has a bye Florida has a bye And group B matchups would be 4 v 9 Tulsa v Hawaii 5 v 8 Missouri c Pittsburgh 6 v 7 Boston College v Oregon State Alabama has a bye Ohio State has a bye TCU has a bye The system is one-and-done..lose and your season is over..win and your one step closer to the national title.. #1 seed plays winner of 6v7 #2 seed plays winner of 5v8 #3 seed plays winner of 4v9 So..this is how it would look so far(in my opinion) GroupA #1 Utah v #6 USC #2 Oklahoma v #5 PennState #3 Florida v #4 Boise State Group B #1 Alabama v #7 Oregon State #2 Ohio State v #5 Missouri #3 TCU v #4 Tulsa Those 6(3 in each 'division') games would be played..The highest surviving seed would then get a bye while the other 2 teams plays to see who would be opposite them in the semi-final game.. So here's the breakdown of that Group A #3 Florida v #6 USC Oklahoma(#2) has bye Group B #2 Ohio State v #3 TCU Alabama(#1) has bye winner of quarterfinal moves on the play in semi-final(duh) #2 Oklahoma v #3 Florida #1 Alabama v #2 Ohio State winners or those games play each other for national title..higher ranked team is "home" team(although game will be played on neutral field..)If both are same number than coin toss prior to game will determine who is 'home' team.. #1 Alabama v #3 Florida #3 Florida is national champ.. This would take up about as much time as the bowl season does..so it wouldn't be all that much of a change to the season..and there could be some kind of consolation to the tams that participated..and a bonus to the teams that were in the title game and a bigger one to the winner..and a couple spare dollars here and there for all of the teams(with winning records) in the conference of the champion.. Resolved Question: How would you rank NCAA Football conferences?
How would you rank the 11 conferences in D-1A Football? And why? 1) Big 12 - No team in the Big 12 is ever out of a game with their offenses, and their defenses only need to show until they have a 2 TD lead 2) MWC - Obviously the bottom of the MountainWest is as low as they get; but BYU, Utah and TCU are good teams. Wyoming beat UT. 3) SEC - They're a close 2nd, but a lower MWC team (Wyoming) beat Tenn, LSU had a hard time beating Auburn and Troy, Auburn had a hard time beating UT Martin and lost to WVU, UGa had a hard time putting away Auburn and was rather unimpressive against Ariz State. 4) BigTen - Ohio State and Penn State are good. Michigan State is mediocre. The rest of the conference just descends from there. 5) ACC - At least it's competitive 6) Pac-10 - USC and Oregon State carry the rest of the conference. Cal can make a surprise from time-to-time 7) MAC - Ball State, Central Michigan and Western Michigan con compete in most conferences (not win, but go .500). Toledo has to get some props for beating Michigan 8) WAC - Fresno beat Rutgers and Boise is still undefeated. Gotta give credit where it's due. 9) BigEast - Pitt and WVU have talent, but there's really not a good team in the conference 10) Sun Belt - Troy played LSU and Ohio State, Mid Tenn State beat Maryland, FIU isn't the worst team in the country anymore 11) C-USA - East Carolina was fun for two weeks. Tulsa has showed their true colors. (more...)

Resolved Question: Best way to book return flights to the USA?
I'm planning on visiting a friend in North Carolina next May hopefully but I also want to spend a few days in New York on the way back. I went to Boise, Idaho over the summer and I had a return ticket from Los Angeles to London and then another from Los Angeles to Boise which was fine. Anyway my question is this; should I book a one way ticket to North Carolina, an internal flight to New York and then another one way ticket from New York to London or book a return from London to North Carolina and another return from New York back to North Carolina? Also another question, slightly related, I put the wrong flight on my green form coming back to the UK as I had a layover in Minneapolis on the way back and put the first leg of my journey instead of the second, is that going to impair entry into the United States next time I go? i did hand in the form and I still have my boarding passes just in case they need proof I actually left. any help appreciated. Resolved Question: Why are they letting LIL WAYNE leave the USA?
They won't let Snoop Dogg or Bone Thugs in my Country cause they got busted with a little bit of weed but they let Lil Wayne in with a record like this: On July 22, 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested in New York City following a performance at the Beacon Theater. NYPD discovered Wayne and another man smoking marijuana near a tour bus on 61st and Columbus. After taking Wayne into custody, police discovered a pistol on his person, and he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana. On October 5, 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested in Boise, Idaho, following a performance at Qwest Arena. Wayne was arrested on felony fugitive charges after Georgia authorities accused the rapper of possessing a controlled substance. Wayne was freed on $20,000 bond. The incident was later described as a "mix-up" and the fugitive charges were dropped. On January 23, 2008, Lil Wayne was arrested alongside two others. His tour bus was stopped by Border Patrol agents near Yuma, Arizona. Lil Wayne had a .44 caliber pistol. A K-9 Unit recovered 105 grams of marijuana (3.7 ounces), almost 29 grams of cocaine (1.02 ounces), 41 grams of Ecstasy (1.4 ounces) and $22,000 dollars in cash. It was released that he has his Concealed Weapons License, completed for the state of Florida; however the power of jurisdiction falls under state ruling, and his legitimacy of possessing a firearm in the state of Florida holds no significance in Arizona. He has since been released on bail of $10,185. In the next couple of week Lil Wayne will be performing at some NIGHT CLUBS in Canada (yes, no arenas for him haha) No but really, I don't hate Wayne as much as it appears here... but I just don't understand why he is even being allowed to leave? Canada is whole another country and yes it is a lot differnt when it comes to the laws... OK THE REAL QUESTION HERE IS WHY IS HE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY WHEN IN THE PAST I HAVE MISSED CONCERTS BECAUSE THE BONE THUGS, DR. DRE & SNOOP (THE WHOLE UP IN SMOKE TOUR) & TI BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ALLOWED IN... SO WHY IS WAYNE ALLOWED TO LEAVE WHEN THEY WEREN'T.... (more...)

Resolved Question: Write Your Elected Officals in Congress - American Energy Independence Legislation Now?
Dear Friends, Please pass this information on to your friends, we the American people need to be more involved in getting congress to pass a comprehensive energy legislation plan now. If we leave it up to our elected officials, we may never see our country free of our dependence on oil or the middle east. I blame myself, along with the American people for taking our economic and energy situation we now face in the United States for granted. I hope it's not to late, our country is facing one of the most important issues in our nations history. Let all Americans sound off with one voice, "That We Want Take It Any More!" we want American Energy Independence Legislation Now! Write to your elected Representatives in Congress It's important to let your elected representatives know that you want them to support American Energy Independence. It's Easy Write a letter to the two U.S. Senators representing the state where you live, and also write to the U.S. Congressman representing your District. Here is a letter that you can use. But feel free to add your own thoughts and comments. You can find your representative's name and address using the links provided in step 2. Dear Senator last name here, Or Dear Representative last name here, The United States spends more money protecting Middle East oil and fighting terrorism than it would cost to develop new energy technology that would obsolete oil as a source of energy. The connection between terrorism and Middle East oil wealth can no longer be ignored. It is time for America to lead the development of new energy technology that would end the need for oil as a source of energy. Freeing America, and all other industrial countries, from the need to use fossil oil as a source of energy will cut-off the flow of oil money to the Middle East and put an end to the financial support of militant Islam. With the help of new technology, America?s energy needs can be obtained from sources other than fossil oil. American technology has put a man on the moon, mapped the human genome, and successfully landed robotic exploration vehicles on Mars. It seems reasonable to believe that American scientists and engineers could also develop environmentally safe alternative energy technology to free America from dependence on fossil oil. The United States has over 270 billion tons of proven coal reserves, having the energy equivalent of four times the oil reserves of Saudi Arabia and equal to all of the proven oil reserves in the world. If the United States could use its coal reserves without destroying the environment, foreign oil would not be needed. Nuclear energy can produce the hydrogen and provide the intense heat needed to make synthetic oil from coal. Nuclear power is a proven emission-free energy source that can replace gas and coal fired base-load electric power generation plants, and enable the USA to develop a replacement for our oil based transportation fuel. The replacement of coal power plants with nuclear power plants would reduce America?s atmospheric CO2 emissions by 30%. The USA does not need to wait for a hydrogen economy; nuclear power can begin to give America energy independence now, by providing the process heat and hydrogen needed for the manufacture of synthetic oil from coal. If nuclear heat and nuclear hydrogen are used in the manufacture of synthetic oil from coal, then the yield of oil from coal would be much higher than if coal was used to provide the needed hydrogen and process heat. Using synthetic gasoline and diesel made from coal, to provide transportation fuel, would not reduce CO2 produced by cars and trucks on the nation's highways, nor would it increase atmospheric CO2 because it would merely replace existing consumption of gasoline and diesel. However, it is possible to have zero emission gasoline/diesel cars and trucks. If technology is used to remove the CO2 tailpipe emissions directly from the atmosphere after the CO2 is released from the tailpipe. In other words, allow cars and trucks to release CO2 and then clean the atmosphere using technology designed to remove CO2 from the air. The collected CO2 can either be recycled or sequestered. If coal power plants were replaced by nuclear power plants, for base-load electricity, and coal is used to make synthetic gasoline and diesel, then Americans who are dependent on the coal mining industry for their incomes would support nuclear energy. Modern Coal-to-oil technology can free America from dependence on Middle East oil. One billion tons of coal per year, at 3 barrels of oil per ton, would replace 65% of USA imported oil, and provide jobs for people who depend on the coal industry. At 12 million imported barrels per day, 65% is 7,800,000 barrels per day. Just over 20% of oil imported into the USA today comes from Persian Gulf Nations, which are also members of OPEC. Less than 45% of oil imported into the USA today comes from OPEC. Drilling for new petroleum might help in the short term, but in the long term natural petroleum is not sustainable ? we cannot depend upon crude oil for our energy future. However, the development of technology for the production of synthetic petroleum will create a sustainable energy future. Synthetic hydrocarbon fuels such as synthetic diesel and synthetic gasoline can be made from many different sources of raw material, including renewable biomass. America has an abundance of natural raw materials that can be used to make synthetic petroleum. A large-scale public investment in Gas-To-Liquids (GTL) technology would bring the cost of the technology down so that the manufacture of synthetic petroleum would be competitive with fossil oil production. The current interest in Gas-To-Liquids technology is focused on monetizing otherwise worthless remote natural gas deposits. However, variations on the same technology can be used to make synthetic petroleum from synthesis gas derived from coal, oil sands, oil shale, biomass, or even recycled CO2 in combination with hydrogen extracted from water. Synthetic gasoline and synthetic diesel made from synthetic petroleum can power existing cars and trucks without needing to modify the engines or national fuel distribution infrastructure. Details and links to more information about new energy technologies can be found on the American Energy Independence web site. www.AmericanEnergyIndependence.com Congress needs to fund advanced research and development of new energy technology. The United States needs to move forward with the development of sustainable sources of energy, and do so with the urgency of a national security mandate.
