Child's Play
Child's Play Horror maestro Tom Holland (Fright Night) brought wit and devilish energy to this 1988 scarefest about a murderer (Brad Dourif) who wills his soul into an innocuous doll named Chucky, and reveals himself only to the toy's owner, a frightened little boy. Catherine Hicks plays the child's mother, and Chris Sarandon a detective; neither of them knows what to make of the kid's story. Monster-doll stories are always wonderfully surreal, and Child's Play is no exception. Holland oversees some finely tuned special effects that allow Chucky to express himself and do some damage--it is truly unnerving but somehow good, subversive fun. --Tom Keogh

That '70s Show - Season 8
That '70s Show - Season 8 All groovy things must come to an end, and the season-eight DVD set marks the conclusion of the popular retro/teen comedy That '70s Show with a fair amount of nostalgic extras to help ease the blow for fans. Though the producers were clearly angling to extend the program's lifespan with the introduction of new characters, most notably Josh Meyers as new kid Randy, That '70 Show had clearly run its course by season eight. It simply couldn't overcome the loss of key players Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher (who appears in only a handful of episodes here)--the show's real heart and humor--despite stalwart support by Danny Masterson and Wilmer Valderrama (and the unbeatable duo of Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp), and the gags feel unfocused and cartoonish. Still, there are amusing episodes to be found throughout the set, most notably "You're My Best Friend" (Hyde has a disastrous bachelor party prior to his even more horrible marriage to stripper Samantha), "My Fairy King" (Jackie discovers her feelings for Fez), and the finale, which ushers the gang into the 1980s with an agreeable touch of sentiment. Supplemental features fall in line with all the previous '70s Show sets; director David Trainer provides commentary on four episodes, including the finale, while co-star Tommy Chong and Meyers get their own "Flashback" retrospectives to discuss their time on the series. Trainer reappears to provide a tour of two of the series' most famous sets: the Foreman's house and the water tower, while "Season 8 in 8 Minutes" is another extraneous montage of clips. The set's best extra--and perhaps the most valuable for series fans--is the 25-minute That '70s Show Through the Years: A Retrospective, which provides interviews with the main cast members culled from the show's entire network run. -- Paul Gaita

That '70s Show - Season 3
That '70s Show - Season 3 Keep reeling in the years with the third season of Fox's popular and long-running teen comedy That '70s Show. As usual, this season's adventures for Eric Foreman (Topher Grace) and his friends in the wilds of suburban Wisconsin circa the mid-'70s are broadly humorous (often to the point of slapstick), but the performances are genuinely warm and honest, especially between Eric and girlfriend Donna (Laura Prepon), and Eric and his parents (the wry Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp). Episodes in season 3 center around the complicated relationships within Eric's gang--Eric and Donna attempt to resist the urge to take their romance to a physical level, while Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), Jackie (Mila Kunis), and Hyde (the show's secret comedy weapon, Danny Masterson) find themselves in an unlikely romantic triangle. Other season highlights include the Halloween Hitchcock tribute "Too Old to Trick or Treat, Too Young to Die"; Fez (Wilmer Valderamma) spoils Kelso's attempts to get back together with Jackie ("Ice Shack"); and Fez's disastrous relationship with the possibly deranged Caroline (a multi-episode arc starting with "Fez Gets the Girl"). The Season 3 set offers all 25 episodes on a four-disc set, and features a wealth of fun extras that should make it a must-have for series fans. Commentary by director David Trainer is featured on six episodes (writer Patrick Kienlen joins him for three), and several cast members provide introductions to each episode (though oddly, not Grace and Prepon). --Paul Gaita

A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan
A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan Already a legend among musicians, Stevie Ray Vaughan was bringing new relevance and popularity to the blues when his career was cut short in a fatal helicopter accident following a 1990 concert appearance. His music offered the drama and sheer firepower of rock, and his flamboyant live shows likewise proved well suited to arena-sized crowds, yet there was little argument that Vaughan's fealty to the blues remained at the core of his style. This 1996 concert tribute underscores that common denominator through muscular performances from contemporary blues masters who readily (and appropriately) confirm the Texas guitarist as a true peer--it's no small matter that bona fide influences Buddy Guy and B.B. King cite the honoree on an equal plane with Vaughan's most obvious rock forebear, Jimi Hendrix.

King and Guy are among the stars who interpret Vaughan's own songbook in live performances backed by either his old band, Double Trouble, or the larger Tilt-a-Whirl Band. Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Dr. John, and the late guitarslinger's big brother, Jimmie Vaughan (himself a major figure since his days with the Fabulous Thunderbirds) all pay gritty musical homage noteworthy for powerhouse guitar work. Whether clad in coveralls (Guy) or Armani (Clapton, of course), each reaches the same common ground in the soul-deep language of the blues; equally important, the choice of material points up Vaughan's sure sense of blues song form and a penchant for tough, frequently witty lyrics that fit snugly into blues traditions. The 80-minute concert also intersperses brief interviews with the principals, with the music building toward a satisfying climax in three high-octane jams featuring the headliners in lively exchanges. The DVD optimizes the full-frame visuals of the original videotaped special, and the 5.1 audio mix likewise fine-tunes the straightforward stereo mix with some added ambience. --Sam Sutherland

Like what i mean is guys are like Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy, Nick Saban, Pete Carroll are defensive minded coaches where as coaches like John Grudden, Mike Holmgren, Mike Leach, Chris Peterson are offensive minded coaches. But has their been a coach who kind of sat on the fence and specialised in special teams? (more...)

Resolved Question: Now that the season is over who should get MVP and the other awards?
Who do you think will get: MVP? Rookie of the year? Coach of the year? Defensive player of the year? Defensive rookie of the year? From what I am hearing the leading candidates for each award are: MVP: Peyton Manning, Michael Turner, Kurt Warner, and Adrian Peterson Rookie of the year: Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, and Chris Johnson Coach of the year: Tony Sporano, Mike Smith, and John Harbaugh Defensive player of the year: Albert Haynesworth, Troy Palamalu, Ed Reed (like always), James Harrison, and Joey Porter Defensive rookie of the year: Dominque Rogers-Cromartie is the only one that pops off the top of my head Warner isn't a shoe in anymore, because of his late season slide. Resolved Question: What do you think of my mock 2009 NFL mock draft?
There are a couple of surprise picks in here. Also I have some players falling out of the 1st round that most people have going in the early to mid 1st. You have to remember though, NFL Drafts are always unpredictable, so you have to do the unexpected. 1.Detroit-Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma - Think, a faster Peyton Manning. 2.St. Louis-Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss - Orlando Pace's replacement. 3.Kansas City-Andre Smith, OT, Alabama - Franchise left tackle that could achor the line for the next 12 years. 4.Cleveland-Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State - May be too early to draft a corner, but it's an obvious hole that needs to be fixed and Jenkins could very well be a Pro Bowler in the next 2-3 years. 5.Seattle-Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia - Walter Jones' replacement. 6.Cincinnati-Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech - Cincy's new superstar after Chad and TJ leave for free agency. 7.Oakland-Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri - Al Davis loves speed and Maclin brings plenty of that to the table. 8.Jacksonville-Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC - Since Mike Peterson will most likely be gone, they bring in Rey to anchor the linebacking corps. Move over Ray, there's a new Rey in the NFL. 9.Green Bay-Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas - Best available player. 10.Buffalo-Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest - Brings size to a small front seven. 11.San Francisco-Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois - Walt Harris' replacement and possibly take #1 corner spot from underachieving Nate Clements. Also brings a brotherhood to San Fran, literally. 12.Denver-Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida - If he preforms well in the National Championship Game, then Brandon Spikes could very well be a top 15 pick. 13.Houston-Everette Brown, DE, Florida State - Make it 3 years in a row Houston has drafted a D-lineman. Anchor the line for the next decade with Mario Williams and Amobi Okeye. 14.New Orleans-Taylor Mays, FS, USC - Freak of nature. Faster than Champ Bailey. Covers like Asante Samuel. Hits like Ray Lewis. 15.Washington-Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech - Brings youth to an aging defensive line. 16.Detroit (from Dallas)-Jason Smith, OT, Baylor - Sam Bradford's insurance policy. 17.Tampa Bay-Percy Harvin, WR, Florida - Joey Galloway's replacement. Punt/kick returner. Electrifying speed. Line up opposite of Antonio Bryant or great slot receiver. Downfield threat. 18.Chicago-CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson - Think, Chris Johnson of the Titans. Two-headed monster of the NFC North (Forte=thunder & Spiller=lightning) 19.New York Jets-Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia - Helps to solidify a good linebacking corps. 20.New England-Brian Cushing, OLB, USC - Bring much needed youth to a very old linebacking corps (besides young star, Jerod Mayo). 21.San Diego-William Moore, FS, Missouri - Upgrades free safety position. 22.Arizona-Chris "Beanie" Wells, RB, Ohio State - Franchise runningback. 23.Minnesota-Patrick Chung, SS, Oregon - Darren Sharper needs a replacement sooner or later and Chung may just be the guy. 24.Miami-Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest - After getting burnt through the year, Miami decides to take a cover corner to stop the bleeding. 25.Atlanta-Sen'Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn - Move Jonathan Babineaux back outside. Run stuffer. 26.Baltimore-Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland - Close enough to be a home-town kid. Able to stretch the field. Could be the next Peyton/Harrison, Aikman/Irving, Montana/Rice kind of deal. 27.New York Giants-Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU - Move Kiwanuka (sp?) back to linbacker and good enough to give Osi (when he comes back) and Tuck a needed breather. Good pass rusher for passing situations. 28.Pittsburgh-Ciron Black, OL, LSU - Ben Roethisberger can't get 2 seconds in the pocket without some defender having a hold of him. Ciron could help to solidify the inside of the line. 29.Philadelphia-Duke Robinson, OL, Oklahoma - With John Runyan and the other guy probably being gone after the season, Duke can step in for them. And we all know how Andy drafts with his 1st pick. 30.Indianapolis-Terrance Cody, DT, Alabama - Bring much need presence back in the middle of the D-line after Ed Johnson's release. Great run stopper. HUGE kid. 31.Philadelphia (from Carolina)-Chase Coffman, TE, Missouri - LJ Smith just isn't getting it done. 32.Tennessee-Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss - The Titans are going to need someone in the middle after Albert Haynesworth leaves during free agency. The kid who stepped in during the Pittsburgh game was solid, but in the next 3 years he's gong to need someone next to him. Think, John Henderson and Marcus Stroud of Jacksonville few years back or Pat/Kevin Williams of the Vikings. *Note: I do have Matthew Stafford (QB, Georgia) coming out, but with the lack of need for quarterbacks, I have him falling to the early to mid 2nd round. Also LeSean McCoy, Knowshon Moreno, and Shonn Greene would normally be a 1st round pick in most drafts, but there is a lack of need for runningbacks this year. Just to anyone who's curious, I'm a Saints fan. With a solid draft and some good moves during free agency for defense we really have a chance to be a Super Bowl contender next year. Geaux Saints! Ironpump or w/e don't give me any of that bull. Remember how Brady Quinn was a definate top 5 pick, but if the Browns hadn't have traded up for him then he would've fallen to the SECOND ROUND. Yes a surefire top 5 picks falling to the 2nd round. It can happen. And did you read what I first wrote? THERE ARE A COUPLE OF SURPRISE PICKS. Yes I truely have Cushing going ahead of Laurinitis. I've watched some of his games this year and he has be awful against top talent (Penn State, USC). And in that USC game Brian Cushing was far superior. (more...)

Position Picks: Quarterback-1 Runningback-1 Fullback-0 Wide Receiver-4 Tight End-1 Offensive Line-6 Defensive End-4 Defensive Tackle-3 Outside Linebacker-3 Inside Linebacker-2 Cornerback-3 Strong Safety-1 Free Safety-2 Kicker-0 Punter-0 Believe it or not, I have Stafford going in the 2nd or 3rd round. There's just not a need for quarterbacks like in past years. Same goes for runningback. This is MY draft. I thought it up and I thought up all of the descriptions. I could've gone WAY more in depth with each pick, but I knew no one wants to read all of that. (more...)
