Open Question: What do you think about a math book with only examples ?
Students in my past algebra classes (college level) have informed me that the textbooks do not have enough examples and lack detail. (I don't want to go into the details of this, but it's mainly to reduce the cost of the book). I am currently working on an example book just for ALGEBRA. The purpose of this book is to provide a variety of examples for students. I do plan on marketing this book for teachers, students as well home-schoolers. There will be detailed examples at different degrees of difficulty. It will also contain practice problems, with the solutions online. In addition, a few of the examples will require thought process, and will not be found in any other textbooks. It will also contain real life application problems that use algebra, unlike those train problems. This will give students an interesting perspective on algebra. I realize there are some books out there such as Schaum's outlines or Cliff Notes, but they usually only contain simple examples that you can find in any math book. I am not recommending students learn algebra from this book. It should not be mistaken for a textbook, but rather an example book to be used along with the required textbook. I would like to hear from some of you and what you think. Any suggestions are appreciated. (more...)

Open Question: HOW MUCH IS THE "DESK FEE" FOR REALTORS IN BC?

Open Question: Anyone have gel nails?
I just recently got acrylic nails. It is time to get them redone, and I think i'm just going to rip them off. I already can tell how much they have damaged my poor fragile nails underneath. I've looked at gel nails online some and they look sooo nice, and more real looking. I've read too that they don't do as much damage to your nails. Though they cost a little more. I found some where local that does them for like $45. My question is if you get the gel nails done, do you like them? How long do they last? Do they do much damage to your nails? Anything else you can tell me would be great! Thanks (more...)

Open Question: is being anti-social bad?
i am an extremely anti-social person. i avoid talking to people and making eye contact at all costs. people think im a freak cuz i stare at a wall or at the ground when i talk to them. when i walk i look down and hope no one notices me. i prefer to sit in the back of class all alone instead of sitting with my friends. if someone says hi in the halls i either ignore them or just wave. i dont talk to people unless they talk to me first. i dont like being in big groups of people but i dont like being with only a few people either. i talk real quiet and in a monotone. i like being home alone. is it bad that im this anti-social? Open Question: Yahoo often has bad listings for the theater I work for-how can this be fixed apart from taking legal action?
I am the webmaster for the keenecinemas.com website, for the local movie theater here in Keene, NH. Recently, many of our patrons have been showing up to the theater at incorrect times after checking the listing on the movies.yahoo.com that yahoo has set up (without our permission) at: http://movies.yahoo.com/showtimes/showtimes.html?z=03431&r=sim#T2 Yahoo's posting of incorrect information is potentially costing the theater both goodwill in the community and revenue. What is the speediest and best way to contact the right Yahoo people to correct that information on yahoo's website about our theater, in a timely and responsive manner, when it is wrong? Or is Yahoo so insulated from those of us who wish to correct it that legal action is our only real option to fix this problem with dispatch? Thank you. (more...)

Open Question: Broke a small window pane, what will it cost?
Ok long story I kind of punched it and it shattered. My hand is fine, but what do I tell my parents? I cannot think of a good story, they will already be pissed at it broken if if I say I punched it then real hell will break out. I have enough cash I think, it was window that is divided into six small panes with into little rectangles and i only broke one of the six. Its not the outer window so no weather is getting in, I dont really know how to explain. I want to know how much that will cost, and what can I say for a story that will make me less an idiot. Thanks a bunch (more...)

Open Question: Is it about time that we end "renewable" energy subsidies?
We taxpayers have dumped $Billions into wind, solar...etc. and have gotten no return. Shouldn't we allow the Free Market determine what forms of energy we use? From the Wall Street Journal: "Congress seems ready to spend billions on a new "Manhattan Project" for green energy, or at least the political class really, really likes talking about one. But maybe we should look at what our energy subsidy dollars are buying now. Some clarity comes from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), an independent federal agency that tried to quantify government spending on energy production in 2007. The agency reports that the total taxpayer bill was $16.6 billion in direct subsidies, tax breaks, loan guarantees and the like. That's double in real dollars from eight years earlier, as you'd expect given all the money Congress is throwing at "renewables." Even more subsidies are set to pass this year. An even better way to tell the story is by how much taxpayer money is dispensed per unit of energy, so the costs are standardized. For electricity generation, the EIA concludes that solar energy is subsidized to the tune of $24.34 per megawatt hour, wind $23.37 and "clean coal" $29.81. By contrast, normal coal receives 44 cents, natural gas a mere quarter, hydroelectric about 67 cents and nuclear power $1.59. The wind and solar lobbies are currently moaning that they don't get their fair share of the subsidy pie. They also argue that subsidies per unit of energy are always higher at an early stage of development, before innovation makes large-scale production possible. But wind and solar have been on the subsidy take for years, and they still account for less than 1% of total net electricity generation. Would it make any difference if the federal subsidy for wind were $50 per megawatt hour, or even $100? Almost certainly not without a technological breakthrough. By contrast, nuclear power provides 20% of U.S. base electricity production, yet it is subsidized about 15 times less than wind. We prefer an energy policy that lets markets determine which energy source dominates. But if you believe in subsidies, then nuclear power gets a lot more power for the buck than other "alternatives." The same study also looked at federal subsidies for non-electrical energy production, such as for fuel. It found that ethanol and biofuels receive $5.72 per British thermal unit of energy produced. That compares to $2.82 for solar and $1.35 for refined coal, but only three cents per BTU for natural gas and other petroleum liquids. All of this shows that there is a reason fossil fuels continue to dominate American energy production: They are extremely cost-effective. That's a reality to keep in mind the next time you hear a politician talk about creating millions of "green jobs." Those jobs won't come cheap, and you'll be paying for them." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121055427930584069.html?mod=opinion_main_review_ (more...)

Open Question: How much does it cost to get started as a real estate agent in the state of Ohio?
I've already finished my licensing courses. I went to speak with the broker that's going to sponsor me and she said that there will be fees involved (besides paying for the license exam) that I will have to pay. However, she didn't say exactly how much. I know theres a fee to become a member of the board of realtors. What else? And how much exactly does it cost to get started? (more...)

Open Question: Travel question about Australia & New Zealand?
Hi all! Well, I have a question and I hope there is someone out there to give me an answer. I am thinking about travelling to Australia & NewZealand and want to taste the real life, get a whole load of great experience's and do things like live with a family, work on a farm etc etc while I'm out there. I have contacted BUNAC who say I can do all that through them, they will sort me out with a bank account and tax number etc etc so I can legally work, and all the appropriate documentation etc, but at a cost. It will cost a few hundred pounds, maybe £450 so like US$700?? Do I have to pay this or can I sort out things like work VISA's and documentation out myself and find homesteads (living with a family for free ie board and foos but work on their farm) myself once I'm there os is it best to just pay out the cash and have them help you? Just wondered if there is anybody out there in cyber space who has gone with BUNAC bafore and what they think of them? Are they good and reliable? etc etc I think that all, oh well, while Im here, has anyone ever travelled to these countries (Oz & NZ) and got work? What sort of work did you do and did you meet people while you were working who you hung out withafter (as I am going by myself!!) scary!! :-O Any help is apptreciated!! see ya :) (more...)

Open Question: What are typical real estate seller's closing costs in Canada?
