For Your Eyes Only
For Your Eyes Only After a ship sunk off the coast of Albania, the world's superpowers begin a feverish search for its valuable lost cargo: the powerful ATAC system, which will give its bearer unlimited control over Polaris nuclear submarines. As Bond joins the search, he suspects the suave Kristatos (Julian Glover) of seizing the device. The competition between nations grows more deadly by the moment, but Bond finds an ally in the beautiful Melina Havelock (Caroline Bouquet), who blames Kristatos for the death of her parents. The non-stop action includes automobile chases, thrilling underwater battles, and even a breathtaking tour over razor-sharp coral reefs. But all of this is merely a prelude to 007's cliffhanging assault of a magnificent mountaintop fortress. -- Robert Lynch

Resolved Question: How far is SW Houston to Tomball or Mongolia?
I am planning on meeting someone in Tomball or Mongolia to buy a Macbook, but I am not sure that my parents will drive me, depending on how far it is from Harris County/SW houston to Tomball or Mongolia. So does anyone know in minutes, how long it would take me to get from SW Houston to Tomball and Mongolia. Thanks. (more...)

Resolved Question: What actually did the teacher like?
The professor told his class one day: "Today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem story. The process is simple. Each person will pair off with the person sitting to his or her immediate right. As homework tonight, one of you will write the first paragraph of a short story. You will e-mail your partner that paragraph and send another copy to me. The partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story and send it back, also sending another copy to me. "The first person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back-and-forth. Remember to re-read what has been written each time in order to keep the story coherent. There is to be absolutely NO talking outside of the e-mails and anything you wish to say must be written in the e-mail. The story is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached." The following was actually turned in by two of his English students, Rebecca and Gary. THE STORY: (first paragraph by Rebecca) At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was out of the question. (second paragraph by Gary) Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation 17," he said into his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance so far..." But before he could sign off a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship's cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit. (Rebecca) He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel," Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth, when the days had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspaper to read, no television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the beautiful things around her. "Why must one lose one's innocence to become a woman?" she pondered wistfully. (Gary) Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership launched the first of its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his top-secret mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized poor, stupid Laurie. (Rebecca) This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent. (Gary) Yeah? Well, my writing partner is a self-centered tedious neurotic whose attempts at writing are the literary equivalent of Valium. "Oh, shall I have chamomile tea? Or shall I have some other sort of F_KING TEA??? Oh no, what am I to do? I'm such an air headed bimbo who reads too many Danielle Steele novels!" (Rebecca) Asshole. (Gary) B ... itch (Rebecca) F__K YOU - YOU NEANDERTHAL! (Gary) Go drink some tea - whore. (TEACHER) A+ - I really liked this one. (more...)

Open Question: Men vs. Women vs. the Short Story?
remember the book "men are from mars, women are from venus"? well, here's a prime example offered by an english professor at southern methodist university: in-class assignment for wednesday: "today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem story. the process is simple. each person will pair off with the person sitting to his other immediate right. one of you will then write the first paragraph of a short story. the partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story. the first person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back and forth. remember to re-read what has been written each time in order to keep the story coherent. the story is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached. the following was actually turned in by two of my english students, rebecca [last name deleted] and gary [last name deleted.] " at first, laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. the chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. but she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off carl. his possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. so chamomile was out of the question. meanwhile, advance sergeant carl harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over skyline 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. Resolved Question: can you read my essay and tell me if its good?
i had to do a book report/essay on the novel, The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks and i had to include a brief plot summary, my reaction to it, whether or not i enjoyed it, and if i recommend it to my classmates and why. I'm in the 9th grade and im just 14 years old. what do you think? This is a major grade so i tried my best. A young woman named Julie Barenson was left depressed and lost after the death of her husband Jim. On Christmas Eve of 1998 in Swansboro, North Carolina, exactly forty days after she last held the hand of her husband, she received a surprise gift that Jim had left for her. It was a Great Dane puppy whom she named Singer. Four years later in 2002, Singer has become a close companion who keeps her safe and is very friendly towards others. Although when Julie began to date again, one certain man, Richard Franklin, had become someone Singer dislikes and is not very fond of. Things didn?t go so well with him so Julie thought it was best to end the relationship and starts to see Mike Harris, her husband?s best friend and best man at their wedding. Richard couldn't bare the rejection and everyone saw a side of him that is dangerous and even murderous. Near the finale of the novel, everything began to unfold into a nightmare spawned by jealousy. The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks was very suspenseful and I just wanted to read more, a curiosity to learn the outcomes of all the explosive encounters in the novel. There was a lot of drama that could have been avoided, but the jealousy and hidden past of Richard Franklin targeted innocent Julie, nearly costing her life and that of many others. Richard had killed his ex-wife, Jessica Bonham, which had left him at one point in their lives but he tracked her down and ?took care of her? as he would say. After that incident, he moved to the small town of Swansboro, North Carolina to start over again. That is where he met Julie whom surprisingly looked much liked Jessica and even had the same smile, personality and same initials as her. She fell for Richard?s trap but she realized it was Mike who she really loved, and that was when started planning his plot of revenge to get Julie back at all costs. It was shocking how someone could go that far to hurt someone. In the end Singer saved Julie?s life that was in the hands of a crazy manipulator. It was enjoyment to read this book in which made me see things beyond the imagination. Nicholas Sparks included very vivid descriptions and added much suspense and action. ?As always though, when she began thinking along these lines, she heard a voice inside of her immediately pipe up, don?t go there. Mike?s your friend, your best-friend, and you don?t want to ruin things do you?? This book was much different from others I have read because of the romance, which was transformed into a murderous, chilling story. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking compelling action and suspense. You can love romantic, heart-warming novels or perhaps a story about a dog, since Singer was Julie?s true guardian in the end when he risked his life to save Julie. Or instead you may be interested in a much more action filled story with violence and revenge. Well this book has it all. Nicholas Sparks wrote a well-crafted love story but with a twist to it. I have no doubt in my mind you won?t enjoy this intense, exhilarating book. (more...)

Resolved Question: How far does illinois political corruption go?
And could it be as far reaching as the White House in the future? According to a news article on yahoo Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested for trying to sell vacated seneate seat left by Barack Obama. He wanted people at the Chicago Tribune fired for saying negative things about him. Excerpt from article: "The affidavit outlined a Nov. 10 call between Blagojevich, his wife, his chief of staff ? John Harris, who also was arrested Tuesday ? and a group of advisers in which Harris allegedly suggested working out an agreement with the Service Employees International Union. Under the plan, Blagojevich would appoint a new senator who would be helpful to the president-elect and in turn get a job as head of Change to Win, a group formed by the union. The union would get an unspecified favor from Obama later." "Political fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko who raised money for the campaigns of both Blagojevich and Obama is awaiting sentencing after being convicted of fraud and other charges. Blagojevich's chief fundraiser, Christopher G. Kelly, is due to stand trial early next year on charges of obstructing the Internal Revenue Service." Ed L...it is not unfounded accusations. It is a genuine concern considering where Obama came from politically. If you want to ignore the truth thats fine but don't attack me for it. parachut... Resolved Question: Would you read this book?
There I was, lying my head on my mothers breast, crying about the horrifying event that had just occurred. My father, had just been killed. We were peasants, my father had been convicted after the crime of treason. I remember standing there watching it all happen. We were in the town, my father had done something I would have never done in all my life. He went up to the king and started yelling that he would be dead soon! My father was always one to stand up for what he believed in. He never believed in the order of the way things work. My family was part of a group that would soon go against the king, of course no one knew about our plan except us and a few other people we knew we could trust. If anyone found out about our group and told the king we'd be dead by now. My family knew it was a big risk for us to be in this group, but we have to stand up for what we believe in. My family, Harris, and Marian were part of the group. Harris and Marian were married and were soon to have children of there own. We had found a secret cave that no one knew about. This is where we lived daily and did all of our plans. We had hoped that if all of our plans worked out by the time I was 18, and Harris and Marian's child was 7, the king would be killed. We knew that to do this we would all have to be killed as well to give all of the peasants the freedom they deserve. In our cave we have a big rock, almost like a table where we do all of our planning. We have meetings about once every day. And in the corners there is hay scattered around everywhere, this is where we sleep. We are all living by a thread. I am very sick, there is a plague and most people have died. The lack of food is making my sickness worse. ------- All that stuff about the plague is real, that really did happen. I know I'm not even close to finishing, but if it was a published book and you could buy it, would you? (more...)
