The Notebook

Based on Nicholas Sparks' novel, director Nick Cassavetes film spins the bittersweet tale of a 60-year romance, as seen from the polar perspectives of its promising youth and the travails of an old age cursed by Alzheimer's. Its soundtrack effectively echoes those polar dramatic concerns, with composer Aaron Zigler's gentle orchestral score largely giving voice to the character's melancholy present, while a rich, well-chosen slate of vintage material by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller imparts a restless energy to their youth. There's a certain schmaltz to much of Zigman's work here, yet cues like "House Blues/The Porch Dance.." and "Noah's Journey" argue he's achieved something more elusive than mere melodramatic wallpaper with the deceivingly difficult task at hand; it can't be easy to have your work seasoned with the likes of Ellington's sassy "Alabamy Home" and Goodman's still-vibrant "One O'Clock Jump." Sharply contrasting versions of "I'll Be Seeing You" by Holiday and Jimmy Durante bookend the soundtrack, perfectly evoking the story's alternating shades of hope and fading nostalgia and framing Zigman's understated work in the bargain.

Mickey's Magical Christmas - Snowed in at the House of Mouse

Though promoted as a "full length holiday movie," this is more of a TV Christmas special spinoff from Disney's new series,
House of Mouse. The premise is something like an animated
Muppet Show: Mickey, Goofy, and Donald run a nightclub for an audience of Disney characters, with plenty of songs, skits, and cartoons. There's not much story to this holiday special--Mickey whips up an impromptu party for stranded guests and instills a "Humbug"-quacking Donald with the holiday spirit--but it's full of sight gags and comic bits with dozens of Disney characters, from Ludwig von Duck to Pumba and Timmon. The special begins with the short
Pluto's Christmas Tree and ends with the entire 1983 short film
Mickey's Christmas Carol. However, the highlight is a comic retelling of
The Nutcracker with Donald as a reluctant Mouse King (complete with phony Mickey Mouse ears) and John Cleese as the exasperated narrator. The special is utterly unmemorable as a whole, but nonetheless bright, light, and cute and sure to keep the attentions of young tots.

Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House

Cary Grant stars as an advertising executive who dreams of getting out of the city and building a perfect home in the country, only to find the transition fraught with problems. (See the 1980s Tom Hanks comedy
The Money Pit for an updated version of the same idea.) The big appeal here are the two leads, Grant and Myrna Loy, who were each in their early 40s and at the peak of their careers. Together with solid support from Melvyn Douglas and a screenplay that might have been tailor-made for their polished brand of comedy, the stars dominate this simple project.

Open Question: What is a legal Separation and do I need one?

I don't think he will take any of the money out of the savings, but you never know. I have heard about "legal" separations, but don't know much about them. Can anyone help me?

Open Question: which do u prefer? please help my novel! it is kinda long?
first of all i know this is long but if u could read aleast part of the begining for choice 1 and 2 i would be forever grateful. please dont respond if u didnt read it b/c then that wouldn't help me at all.
i wanted to write something that i like. i have a love of fantasy, romance and shocking twists. so i just started writing recently and didnt like how i first started my story so a few days ago i rewrote it and wanted to know what ur thoughts are. also i know i have many errors and such so dont worry about mentioning that.
so here is the first one
?It?s only going to be for the weekend?, Damian repeated once again as he was putting on his fire truck red jacket around his broad shoulders.
?I know, but why this weekend?? I pressed.
Damian looked up from zipping his jacket, ?Well Jackson and Nick found this really sweet spot to go camping and besides I haven?t seen them in a while and wanted to do some manly bonding.
?Manly bonding!? I sneer while leaning over the edge his bed.
?You know what I mean!? he said trying to reason.
It was true, I did.
Recently we all graduated from Chamberlin High School, home to the black stallions, and one of Damian?s buddies, Jackson, received two tickets to Mexico as a present from his grandparents. Then Jackson having one ticket to give and two best friends to choose between, Damian spared him the guilt and opted out stating he wanted to spend more time with me. Our ?quality time? together was shared in front of the television at my house watching any channel of interest during the first few weeks of summer.
I would watch the predictable chick flicks that Damian would despise and in turn I would tune into to his semi-boring athletic games he wanted to watch. His sports shows never really interest me because I wasn?t what you would call the athletic type; well not anymore at least. Swimming was my passion a few years ago, but I guess you can say I grew out of it. It just wasn?t my thing anymore. The only athletics I do now is the running after Damian during our snow ball fighting winters and ice cream shoved up the nose summers.
?I just can?t believe you forgot!? I said as I was pulling my loose auburn wavy hair into a pony tail.
Damian who was busily packing, look up into my blue eyes ?What did I forget again?? Sadly he wasn?t joking. I turned to look at him. He had that confused looking puppy face. His beautiful dark brown eyes stared curiously into mine as he ruffled his dark chocolate hair trying to think.
?Did you forget that this is our one year anniversary this weekend?? I was more shock than angry that he had forgotten.
?Oh?, he said still ruffling his hair. ?We have been going out for that long already, Scarlet??
I angrily turn my back to him, crossing my arms as I got up from his bed and looked out his squared window. A cold breeze managed to slide pass the glossy window and crawls its way to my exposed fair skin neck. I shivered as I instinctively grasp my small hand around the unzipped portion of my royal purple jacket that allowed my neck to show. The cold vanished as I felt his warm minty breathe on my neck...
here is the 2nd which is longer b/c this is before scarlet enter Damians's house (for those who like the 2nd one i am not in love with the first 2 paragraphs and wwanted to know ur thoughts on how to make it better) a
I lied on my bed doing nothing and thinking of nothing. The silent torment ended when a whimsical noise played from my phone. Temptation of ending this boredom got the best of me when I thought about all the excitement I would get from answering my phone. I sighed reaching for it on my desk.
Glancing at the glowing screen, it read in dark letters that I had one miss call. Hitting the button to playback the message I put the phone to my ear expecting it to be from my mom saying that she will be home soon with my dad. My face light up once I heard who was on the other end.
Damian!
My eyes grew wide and my expression became uneasy once the message was finished.
?What!? I shouted.
I cock my head towards the radio looking for the time. I still had the time. Reaching for the silver keys on my desk I dash to the car. Sitting on the blacken driveway was my black Saturn. I shoved the silver keys to start the engine. Hitting the gas I drove as fast as I could while still be conscious of the speed limit.
After turning on Mayfield Street I could see Damian house in the distance. The odometer dwindled from twenty-five to zero in an instant when I saw the golden Toyota glistening underneath the sun. This golden car belongs to no other than Miss. Moore, Damian mom. It?s not that I don?t like his mom because I do, but she is an expert at smothering me. She calls me the ?daughter she never had? and with that title comes great responsibility.
I had two options. To get to Damian I would have to risk my sanity or somehow turn invisible so I could enter the house unseen. After weighi

Open Question: I don't want to be married anymore?
I have been married for 19 years. We have 2 children. One is going to college in the fall. My youngest races motocross. I home school him so that he can train and travel. My husband is obsessed with this sport. That is all that he is interested in. He is a self employed general contractor and I manage the office. Work has gotten really slow. I am a nurse and have gone to work part time to help with the finances. So I home school my son, manage our business, work a part time job, attend all my oldest sons school events along with helping with project graduation, manage the house and household bills, attend all my sons races and take him to practice when needed. I am tired of all the responsibility and the fact that my husband and I have nothing in common. I just want to be on my own but as the responsible person I have always been I don't know how to walk away

Open Question: Is this a good story?I want to know.?
I'm not telling who wrote it.But I want to know your opinion.Read it below.
"Hurry up Jessica!"I yelled to my younger sister.'Were going to be late for school!"Jessica always wakes up late, and i'm the one who has to wake her up.Oh, I frogot to interdouse myself, I am Baily Arbon, I have a twin sister named Jessica, and I live in a small town in Utah.I am 10 years old, my hair is a dirty blone, and my eyes are hazel.Nothing much.Well, back to my story."I am"! Jessie yelled back at me.Did I tell you she is not a mornig person?I checked the time.It was 8:35, that is the time we have to be at the bus stop!I grabbed my sister and ran out the door. When we saw the bus pull up, we ran as fast as we could. The good thing is, we made it.Barley.I sat next to my BFF Miley.
When we arrived at school, me and Miley walked to room 12.Of course, Jessie was alreadt there. It is always so boreing from the biginig of school, until resess. All we really do is read weired stories from our antholagiys, boreing.Me and Miley just pass notes on how broeing it is.The weired thing is,we haven't goten caught yet.I wonder why.
I was relived when the recess bell rang.At resess, me, Miley, and Jessie just walk and talk.We talk about weired things. The bad thing is, we only have 10 minutes of recess, so we don't talk alot.Jessie is always trying to show off, it is redicoulus. She thinks she is the best at every thing. The rest of the school day was really boreing, I almost fell asleep. When me and Jessie got home, there was a note on the frige, it said:Girls, i'm working late tonight.I will be home around 10:00pm.I want you two in bed before then.Love, mom. After we wuere both done reading it, I told Jessie I was tired and went bed. The next day, me and Miley made up this game called "I got guts" it is where we give people money for doing silly things at recess. Then at the end, we tell them it is a funny prank. They thought it was funny too. After recess, a teacher came in and told my teacher about it.I guess some people that wure watching thought it was mean and told on us.We almost got in trouble, but our teacher let us off easy.I'm glad my teacher is nice. After school, I told my mom about it.She didn't really care.I called Miley to see if she could play, she could. So I wen't over to her house, we played a little. Then I had to go home.I went right to bed because I was tired.
Hope you like it.
Also, guess the age of the author.

Open Question: Why does my College Application Essay SUCK?
it's disoriented but it can't be that bad? someone give me feedback? please?
Zhen Zhong
I often stock myself up with books and movies on a rainy day. They provide an escape to my conscience and keep it busy. However in no means are they ?dream worlds? I slip into when the cold hard world is too much to take. Facing up to one?s problems is the best way to avoid regret and the best way to provide faster release. I always have my own back and a good grasp of reality.
I?m quite content with myself and where I am in life. I have a great family, a consoling home, and unswerving friends. I enjoy hanging out and shopping as much as reading and writing. My favorite class in school is Gymnastics where I can loosen up and concentrate on the winning goal. I love my part time job as a coffee Barista for Starbucks, it often reminds me that I am independent and can survive outside of my parent?s allowances.
I believe in reason and logic and tradition. I am swollen with pride of who I am. Loosing is never an option I would choose. I try my best to achieve my goal and never let small adversities stand in the way. I am determined because I have motivation. I always have motivation because I have pride and love competition. I don?t deem I will ever loose, and simply repudiate and loath loosing.
Playing the violin is both a hobby and an artistic expression; During school I was awarded many orchestra excellence certificates and was in the String Ensemble, National Music Honor's Society: Tri-M and passed the level 6 New York NYSSMA with an A+ with the piece "Hoe Down" by Copland. Aside from my musical accomplishments, I was awarded with Principle?s List and Honor?s Roll certificates. I was in the Mu-Alpha Beta National Math Honor?s Society and the National Honor?s Society.
I love the arts, including acting, plays, theater, movies, TV, poetry, stories, fine art, domestic art, modern art, and every other art out there. To put it short, I enjoy the finer things in life. To not have the finer things in life is to not have pleasure and therefore I am determine to be and do the best that I can, provided that I am blessed to have the education and needs that I have.
My parent?s have always been an inspiration. Over the years, they?ve managed to own a expensive house in Long Island, (being immigrants themselves and speaking poor English at first) and support a family of 5 with very few times where the wants and needs aren?t met. They have always been there for me and I know I can always count on them.
These days, I?m looking for answers to questions. I love learning and learning about what I love. My main goal though is to be wise and knowledgeable. I am fascinated with myself and what I am made up of -why my body and mind functions the way they do. For that reason, the biologic and health fields has a great allure. I believe learning is valuable and beneficial both physically and spiritually. It?s a win-win situation.

Open Question: im wrote an essay for the knights of columbous contest, and now i dont know what to title it. ?
Should candidates for public office be required to keep their
campaign promises? Why?
Yes, I think that political candidates should keep their promises that they made during the campaign, because the voters voted for the candidates because of what they said they would and would not do. If a candidate would have been elected and said that they would lower taxes and make sure everyone had health insurance, then when they went into office and didn?t keep their promises, the voters wouldn?t be happy because basically they would have voted for a liar. The political candidates are taking a big part in the country to step up and do their job. Voters should know already that the candidates are real and believable, and that they can take them for their word. They shouldn?t have to wait until after they elected them to find out that the candidate wasn?t going to follow through with what they said they would.
If the politician said they would make promises to help stop the war and keep our troops and families safe, then we should be able to rely on what they had told us during the campaigns. Many families are dealing with theses situations, of having to worry about a loved one being in harm. With additional life situations dealing with finical support, worrying about their children being safe on the streets, and keeping their houses. Many of the single parents? who?s loved ones aren?t with them, but at war, have to worry about working extra time to keep a roof over their families? heads and not being able to spend time with their children.
My family also has to worry about this. My cousin is engaged, and her fiancé is in Iraq fighting for our country. This is his second time being deployed there; he has already received the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is the honor you receive at war for being hurt while still fighting. However, it is very difficult for her to plan a wedding, pay her bills, and plan for her future with all of the worries she has of hoping that he will come home safe.
It?s the holiday season, and many adults are loosing their jobs because the economy and the stock market are failing. This is because the politicians, who made their promises, aren?t changing what is affecting everyday lives. The everyday necessities are becoming more and more difficult to keep up with, keeping food on the table and clothes on our backs. Also, lots of kids won?t be able to get any holiday gifts this year because their parents have lost their jobs, and can not afford to buy presents and pay for the heat and water bills at the same time
All of these major circumstances revolve around what our future politicians have told us during their campaign. They have made us promises that many people rely on, for their future and their day-to-day life. When the candidates tell us their promises, it gives us a good idea on who to vote for, hoping that each candidate will follow through with their ideas. Not only do the parents of today have to worry about this, but this is affecting our future.

Open Question: Problem downloading torrents on a shared network?
Whenever I download a torrent file over my homes shared network it slows down the rest of the network so much that using the Internet hardly ever works.
So, say I'm downloading a torrent on my laptop, I could go use any of the other computers in my home, but when I try to get online my browser says there is limited or no connectivity, as if my router had stopped working.
BUT, as soon as I quit downloading the torrent on my laptop the networks fine and I can get online anywhere in the house with no problems at all.
So I guess my question is just, is there a way to prevent my network from being directed ONLY into my laptop while downloading. That way other people are able to get online while I am. Its really just annoying and limits me to downloading late at night.
Oh, and just for some network info, its a closed network only my family uses it. Its fairly quick up to 150 kb/s. And lets say I download a large file like iTunes? while I'm its downloading (not through the use of a torrent downloader just through firefox or internet explorer) my downloading speed is usually up to 150 kb/s and while it downloads i can use the internet anywhere in my home fine, even though my laptop is using its portion of the network at its max. So it ONLY happens if i download a torrent, EVEN if my current download speed is very slow, like 5 or 6 kb/s its ridiculous!
Any light on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
