The Lion King (A Walt Disney Masterpiece)
Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the Rugrat crowd. --Tom Keogh
Director: Rob Minkoff, Roger Allers

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Walt Disney's Masterpiece)
One of the brightest nuggets from Disney's golden age, this 1937 film is almost dizzying in its meticulous construction of an enchanted world, with scores of major and minor characters (including fauna and fowl), each with a distinct identity. When you watch Snow White's intricate, graceful movements of fingers, arms, and head all in one shot, it is not the technical brilliance of Disney's artists that leaps out at you, but the very spirit of her engaging, girl-woman character. When the wicked queen's poisoned apple turns from killer green to rose red, the effect of knowing something so beautiful can be so terrible is absolutely elemental, so pure it forces one to surrender to the horror of it. Based on the Grimm fairy tale, Snow White is probably the best family film ever to deal, in mythic terms, with the psychological foundation for growing up. It's a crowning achievement and should not be missed. --Tom Keogh

Cinderella (Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection)
Disney's adaptation of the beloved fairy tale became a classic in its own right, thanks to some memorable tunes (including "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes," "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," and the title song) and some endearingly cute comic relief. We all know the story--the wicked stepmother and stepsisters simply won't have it, this uppity Cinderella thinking she's going to a ball designed to find the handsome prince an appropriate sweetheart, but perseverance, animal buddies, and a well-timed entrance by a fairy godmother make sure things turn out all right. There are a few striking sequences of pure animation--for example, Cinderella is reflected in bubbles drifting through the air--and the design is rich and evocative throughout. It's a simple story padded here agreeably with comic business, particularly Cinderella's rodent pals (dressed up conspicuously like the dwarf sidekicks of another famous Disney heroine) and their misadventures with a wretched cat named Lucifer. There's also much harrumphing and exposition spouting by the King and the Grand Duke. It's a much simpler and more graceful work than the more frenetically paced animated films of today, which makes it simultaneously quaint and highly gratifying. --David Kronke

Open Question: What are the pro's and cons of renting a house with option to buy?
I am seeing this new trend of renting a home with the option to buy. I read some info on this type of rental option and it explained that you sign a contract of an agreeable amount for the sale after a certain amounts of months. It almost sounds too good to be true.
We have been working to clean up our credit to purchase a home of our own, but I know that it takes time for the paid items to reflect your credit score. We also will only be using my partner's income because I am finishing up school in May and will be able to work full time after that. I am just wondering if that would be a good option for us to look into rather then using only her credit and income since I have no recent employment history. A broker told me that he would not feel comfortable even including me in the process until I was employed full-time for a minimum of 6 months and all my items on the credit report were in satisfactory standings (referring to a good payment history on my student loans....which are not due until I am completed with my education).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Open Question: What Is Up With This New Law That Is Suppose To Take Effect On February, 10, 2009?!?
We are no longer going to be able to buy or sell products made for children 12-years of age and younger?! What about "going green?!" The manufacters are just going to have to make MORE AND MORE PRODUCTS only so our children are forced to build their homes on perfectly good items that could have been handed-down! how many people do you know of that died of "Led Poisioning?!" What about all of the houses that were built before 1962 and all of the toys that our grandparents played with as children? Our grandparents didn't die of led poisioning! I don't understand this law or if it will even take effect. It's just like the law way back when they tried to out-law alcohol. There are just WAAAAY too many people out there that want to buy and sell items such as garage sales, Craigslist buyers and sellers, Ebayers, and what about all of those second-hand children stores?! Are they all going to go out of business?! This law is so rediculous! I don't understand it at all and I really don't think it's going to be able to really take effect. Your thoughts??
MIZZOUSW, You are right. I will tell all of the people on Craigslist who are getting all stirred up about this.

Open Question: KENMORE vs BOSCH - Should be easy decision but isn't - Help?
We have our home listed for sale. One of the remarks on the MLS listing is 'top of the line appliances'. We have a "Sub Zero (Brand) Refrigerator/Freezer, an Electric Bosch Convection Oven and a Bosch Regular Oven (Both in Wall), the Microwave is a Convection too - a Bosh. The Dishwasher is also a Bosch.
PROBLEM: My husband dropped a metal fry pan on the Counter Top Electric Cook Range which was Bosch also. It shattered. We have to replace it. To replace the Bosch would be almost $3,000 -- to put in a top of the line Kenmore Cooktop would be approximately $900.
If you were buying a home would a new Kenmore Electric Cooktop turn you off....should we have spent $2,000 extra on the Bosch?
Please answer while we have time to get out of the contract (if necessary).
Kenmore is 'SEARS' own brand.

Open Question: Does C21 techno mean that, just as musicians can link up via satellite, etc, so clubs, pubs & folk @ home see?
Have you noticed that all Sky music channels seem only to play one video after another & no gigs were advertised on 'em over Christmas?
& that Performance Channel & Mainstreet, who both specialised in live gigs, have both vanished?
& Rockworld just shows minor/unknown bands play small venues?
From my own professional speciality of sales, that is a clear gap in the market, yes?
Does C21 techno mean that, just as musicians can link up via satellite, etc, so clubs, pubs & folk @ home can view the mega-gig?
After all, the question says HUGE band, but in winter, folk maybe won't go to stadiums. parks & beaches that could house big enough stages, so we're talking virtual, to maximise the audience?

Open Question: Do you agree with this letter?
To All My Valued Employees,
There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is the changing political landscape in this country.
However, let me tell you some little tidbits of fact which might help you decide what is in your best interests.
First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a Back Story. This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear. Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside. You've seen my big home at last year?s Christmas party. I'm sure; all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life.
However, what you don't see is the BACK STORY:
I started this company 28 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living apartment was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.
My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business -- hard work, discipline, and sacrifice.
Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the discount store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.
So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5pm, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have the freedom. I eat, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a 1 year old special-needs child. You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden -- the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations... you never realize the Back Story and the sacrifices I've made.
Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.
Yes, business ownership has is benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds.
Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:
I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero.. Nada. Zilch.
The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country.
The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy.
Here is what many of you don't understand ... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the W
Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget it now.
When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart? Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep.
So where am I going with all this?
It's quite simple.
As Obama and Doyle levy a bevy of new taxes on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I'll fire you. I'll fire your co-workers. You can then plead with t
So, if you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about....

As Obama and Doyle levy a bevy of new taxes on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I'll fire you. I'll fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem any more.
Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.
So, if you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about....

Open Question: Are there any sears sales associates that actually get benefit rate when we are suppose to?
I have been working at sears for a little over a year. I've been working in the home electronics section of the store for about 4 months. At times where i believed it would be fitting for benefit rate, we only received training pay. With me there is a big difference between training pay ($8) and my benefit rate.

Open Question: can you collect disability if you have fibromyalgia?
I've been struggling with it for over 14 years and am now at that point I was afraid would happen, I can't hold down a full time job, even a simple admin. asst. job, and am afraid I'll be fired at some point. I used to be a very successful sales person a couple of years ago and managed the pain fairly well. It's gotten worse, we ended up filing bankrutcy then lost our home. I keep trying to work at something less stressful, a desk job or something. The pain has gotten worse and is difficult to control. I've lost almost 30 lbs this last year, I'm not taking very good care of my kids, myself, my home. My brain is so fuzzy sometimes. I'm on medications that work when I don't push myself but I can't afford them if I don't work in order to pay for the insurance. I am under a physician's care, I seen several doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, tried diets, supplements, so I don't want to hear any sales pitches. I know I will have to slow down, I already have no social life, I've gone to work and home, that's it, for two years now, as that's all I can handle. I make sure I move and don't allow myself to be bedridden as that makes me worse. I just am curious as to what kind of uphill battle am I in for if I try to apply for disability or am I better off just jumping off of a tall building?
