Open Question: What do I do about my muddy yard? I recently purchased a new home. I live in Southern IN and have 4 dogs. ?
When I first moved into my home my yard was wonderful, green, and lush. Now that winter has set in its just mud. My dogs have pretty much ruined the back lawn simply by running in the yard. I'm wanting to put new grass in come spring. What is the best type to hold up to 4 dogs and rainy weather. How and when do I plant this type of grass. This is my first home and I'm not much of a DIY type person. How long does it typically take for this type of grass to grow. Also, I have several smaller trees along my fence. Is there a grass that grows well without much sunlight? The main part of the yard is in direct sunlight and this is the one where all the mud is. What can I do about this?

Open Question: How do I fill a 10cm gap between shower door frame and walls.?
The walls in our shower are 150cm apart. The widest door/frame I can get is 140cm so I have a 10cm gap to fill. Any ideas on how I achieve this and is it better to take to 10cm as a whole or split it into two 5cm gaps, one each end? We are in southern Spain just north of Granada so no suggestions relating to Lowe's, Home Depot, Homebase, B&Q, etc. Don't bother to suggest a shower curtain, we have one but since the walls are not parallel, the sprung pole won't stay put.
OK love but what with?
Galactic, how do I avoid the wood rotting?

Open Question: Do some people still think they are better off with guns in the house?
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. ? A 12-year-old boy who fatally shot his mother after an argument over his chores was found guilty of premeditated murder.
Judge James Conlogue found the boy guilty after a hearing Friday in Cochise County Superior Court in the southern Arizona town of Bisbee. The boy is not being identified because he was charged as a juvenile.
Conlogue ruled that prosecutors had proved the boy acted intentionally and with premeditation when he shot Sara Madrid, 34, eight times on Aug. 1. The shooting happened after the boy had argued with his mother over his chores.
Madrid had left the family home after the argument, and the boy got a .22-caliber pistol from her bedroom closet, waited for her to return and then repeatedly shot her, according to court testimony.
Madrid's live-in boyfriend of 10 years, Alfonso Munoz, witnessed the shooting and said the boy gave him the empty gun afterward.
Munoz, who helped raise the boy, said he had taught the child how to use the weapon for emergencies and self-defense.
The boy's lawyer, Sanford Edleman, had argued that the boy did not intend to kill his mother but only wanted to get back at her for abusing him.
Police said the boy told them his mother yelled at him and slapped him.
Madrid's sister, Ernestine Huitron, testified Friday that Madrid did not want the boy to live with her, and that Madrid had a temper and yelled at him.
"He is a docile, sweet boy," Huitron said. "Sara said (the boy) was stupid and dumb."
Prosecutors wanted the boy tried as an adult, but the judge ruled the case should remain in juvenile court after a psychologist and psychiatrist testified that he suffered physical and verbal abuse from his mother and could be rehabilitated in the juvenile justice system.
Under Arizona law, the boy can only be held until he turns 18. Sentencing is set for Jan. 23.
Of course, we still need guns in case we meet a purse snatcher, don't we?

Open Question: I rescue dogs, do you think this is wrong?
Okay me and my friend have been doing this only for about a month because there is a lot of stray dogs and puppies around here. What we do is we take them in and feed them, give their shots to them, give them worming medicine get them flea dipped and groomed and then we sell them to a person we think will be a good owner but we only ask for our money back the we put into it so we can continue doing this.
Someone we spoke to on the phone said they didnt aprove of it because it was like a puppy mill but it is nothing like that its actually no more then 15 dogs at a tim and they are in a heated shed with beds and toys we come out and play with them also. I was just wondering if you thought it was bad thing because i thought we were doing the right thing.
Also we live in ohio and the name we are going by at the time is "B&R to the rescue" The phone number is 7403545084 and you can email through here if you any dogs in the ohio area that need a good home we are in southern ohio.

Open Question: Will this work for my UT transfer application essay?
the topic is about and "important issue" to me. I'm writing about the Texas top ten percent law, but i feel like it's kind of risky for an application essay
Being Texas born and bred, it is my natural tendency to have a deep-rooted love for my home state ? and I do. I love the friendly people, the dynamic cultures, and the southern hospitality. I love the plains, the hill country, the gulf, and the deserts. I even love the stereotype that all Texans are cattle ranchers or cowboys. But while I have a sincere affection for all things Texas, I do have one complaint: the thorn in the side of college hopefuls known as the ?Top Ten Percent? law.
I don?t remember how young I was when I first realized that I would need to graduate in the top ten percent of my class in order to be accepted to one of my top choice universities, but I do remember feeling that I was already being treated unfairly. What did ?top ten percent? mean in a college application, anyway? My sister was always considered one of the brightest students in her class when our family was living in Dallas, but when we moved our new school district pushed her out of the top quarter of her graduating class. Her best friend, who was academically identical to my sister but who still attended a Dallas high school, graduated sixth her class and was accepted into every Texas university to which she had applied. Needless to say, my sister was not accepted by her first choice university. The top ten percent rule had failed to take into account the disparity that exists between school districts and the degrees to which they challenge their students.
In my own high school experience, I had friends who ?played the game? by taking no advanced classes, though they were fully capable students, and graduated with 4.0s in order to be a part of the elite top ten percent. I, on the other hand, took the classes that I felt were at the appropriate level for me ? some honors, some APs, and some regular classes ? and graduated with a 3.72. My grade point average may not have been valedictorian material, but I thought that graduating in the top nineteen percent of my class was still quite an achievement. Apparently the top ten percent rule disagreed, as I was only accepted to my ?safety? schools (and I ended up making a 4.0 at the one that I chose). I felt crushed, as if I had been punished by a state law. I wasn?t happy with the schools into which I was accepted. I felt as if I still had to prove myself to the state of Texas and show I was worthy of more than a safety school. The Texas legislature seemed to think that I wasn?t deserving of going to the universities that I had worked so hard to gain acceptance into, and I knew many of my classmates in similar situations felt the same way.
While the legislators who put the ?Top Ten Percent? law into effect over ten years ago may have had good intentions (namely diversifying Texas college campuses), the rule is simply too flawed to be an appropriate measure of what constitutes a high-achieving or well-rounded student. The top ten percent of students at one high school may not have faced as many academic demands as the top ten percent of students in another district. One student might graduate with a grade point average of 4.0 after taking all AP classes, while another 4.0 student might have taken only regular classes knowing that they could finagle their way into the top ten percent. Many students are completely unaware that the law was implemented as a way to increase minority representation on college campuses, and thus it is simply seen as a game of strategy in the college application process.
While I love my home state dearly, Texas has a serious flaw within the realm of higher education. Many deserving students? efforts are seemingly overshadowed by those top ten percent students who did not attend competitive high schools or those who simply strategized their way into the university of their choice. Reversing the top ten percent law would restore fairness to the college application process, and it would certainly relieve high school students of that thorn in their sides.
any advice is greatly appreciated!

Resolved Question: My landlady entered my apartment without telling me?
Im in southern california. Yesterday my roommate went home during her lunch break and she found all of the windows in our apartment wide open. Were currently fighting with the landlady to try to get her to finish some repairs to mold/termite damage but because the humity in the apartments are so high the repair guy wont redo the walls etc. She wants us to keep the windows open at all times, which we feel is not an option considering the bad area and we're on the ground floor so the likihood of a break in is much higher. The other option she gave us was to always have the airconditioner fan on which would cost us about 50 dollars a month which I can't afford and she will not cover. We did not leave the windows open. We called the landlady and asked her if she did this and she said she meant to call us but never got around to it. I have a cat that could have escaped. Not to mention it's a complete breach of privacy and again we're in a bad area and the apartment grounds are not secure so anyone can walk in and see right into our apartment. Later we also discovered that she allowed a termite bug killer guy into our apartment without watching him or letting us know before or after he had been there, our neighbor notified us when we got home later that day.
Our contract says that she must notify us 24 hours prior to anyone entering our apartment. She did not. What can we do?

Open Question: How long do you think Russia will keep gas line closed that runs through Ukraine?
I work with a few Romanians and they keep me informed of what goes on over there that doesn't show up in the media. Since January 1st, 44 people have died in southern Romania because of lack of gas to heat homes. Those who can afford it are having to pay equivalent to $1000 american dollars for a load of wood that only last a couple of days.
I don't have any info on other countries who are suffering because of this so I am sure there have been more than 44 deaths.
