Open Question: Can someone please edit my essay?
One of the core, ethical principles of social work is that all people have the right to be treated with respect and dignity. We must ensure that each individuals? human rights are upheld. Because each person has a right to be treated as a whole person, this requires us the professional to not only be concerned about the individual, but also their family, community, and environment. Social workers help address problems of people who are disadvantaged and poor. They help them gain access to resources and support that enhances their well-being and helps them to be self-sufficient. Social workers must come together to change the social conditions that contribute to economic inequalities by challenging unjust policies and practices at every level. This includes making sure that those in need receive resources first, and that resources offered are distributed fairly.
Social workers are concerned with well-being of individuals who are the most helpless in society. They work with women and children, the elderly and disabled individuals who are more likely to live in poverty. Not having access to resources, transportation, education, employment, and child care can make it difficult for them to fully participate in their communities. Being able to work and provide for our needs and those of our families is essential to our well-being. Individuals susceptible to living in poverty should not be deprived of their basic necessities that can sustain their lives.
Before we can address changes for those living in poverty, first, we need to look at clearly what is causing poverty. There are many factors to why people are living in poverty: lack of income, lack of resources that ensure sustainable lives, limited or lack of access to education and services, a lack of participation in decision-making and loss of livelihood as a result of economic recession or disaster.
There needs to be a combination of resources, support, empowerment, education and employment opportunities for individuals living in poverty to enhance their well-being and improve their lives. For instance, we must ensure that there is universal access to economic opportunities that promote sustainable lives and social services, as well as being able to facilitate access to opportunities and services for the disadvantaged. People living in poverty an vulnerable groups must be empowered to through participation in all aspect of their lives. We need to expand opportunities to enable people living in poverty to enhance their overall capacities and improve their economic and social conditions. Therefore, as social workers we need to change social conditions in order to ensure access for all individuals to resources, opportunities, and public services. People living in poverty should also be empowered by strengthening education at all levels and ensuring access to education of these people. Having an education for people living in poverty can aid in their opportunity to develop skills and knowledge that they need to better their conditions and improve their lives. Other areas that can aid and improve the lives of people living in poverty are ensuring that there is equal access to social services, especially education. For example, equal access to social services programs that enable vulnerable people and those living in poverty to improve their lives and by them fully participating in their lives.

Open Question: Writing a fantasy series - The end of the kingdom?
My main question is really about how realistic a few aspects of the series are, but you'll have to read this whole thing to understand. I don't get to the actual question until later.
---
I'm writing a sci-fi/fantasy series (mostly fantasy) and I'm trying to figure out how the whole thing ends. I know some people recommend just writing and seeing how it turns out, but that just isn't the way I roll. I like to plan things out, and I think the end should be planned.
I guess I should give you some background first. Just remember that this isn't the story or a full summary. Anyway, the story takes place in just one area on a planet. There is no space trekking, and there is no magic or spiritual forces.
--Background on Kingdoms--
The Northern kingdom has just been through a war with another kingdom. The Northern kingdom won, but it has resulted in the kingdom becoming very militaristic and as a result of this and a draft, many people are leaving. Despite the decreasing population, the military is strong (despite the lack of resources and citizens) because they draft men and women and they train them well. Overall the kingdom is in good shape militarily and is bountiful in resources (I haven't decided what resources exactly).
Most of the people are going to a far away peaceful country that has much more comfortable living conditions. Many think of it as a paradise, which is actually pretty accurate.
And then there is the small southern kingdom. It is not as outwardly militaristic as the Northern kingdom, but it has a very corrupt government and monarch. The monarch is secretly planning to attack the Northern Kingdom, but the problem is the southern kingdom is small and has no real allies while the Northern Kingdom is militarily strong. The main reason for invading is to get the land and all it's resources. It would be a start of an empire.
--The Plan--
The monarch has an elaborate plan to weaken the Northern Kingdom before infiltrating it. How would this unnamed monarch weaken this extremely generically named kingdom you ask? Well, that's up to me. I do have ideas, but they are subject to change so feel free to make suggestions. My idea is that it has something to do with a plague that will kill much of the remaining population of the Northern kingdom and its allies. This plague is caused either by radiation poisoning caused by a deadly substance under the ground of the Northern kingdom and its allies.
--The Substance--
Now you may be wondering why this plague wouldn't have already caused any deaths. Well, the substance is inert throughout the story. It hasn't been "activated", so it doesn't give off any radiation. At the end it is activated by a creature that the Southern Kingdom has in their possession. The substance is somehow connected with this ancient creature. In the time during which the series takes place (a little over a year), a secret military unit is trying to find a shrine that houses an energy that can allow a person to control the creature, and thus make it activate the strange substance that would cause the deaths. It would only effect people, so the land would be fine. And since the radiation levels of the substance can be controlled, they would be able to bring the levels down completely after the deaths.
--The powers & shrines--
This power that I mentioned isn't the only power in series. there are a few more. The energy doesn't actually give the person the power. It only works for a certain race of people that are similar to humans but are a bit more superhuman and have animal-like senses. This race already has many latent abilities, but they can't use them unless they get this energy from the shrine. They go to the shrine and put their hand on a design engraved in the wall. This causes the energy to go into the brain and open up neural pathways that allow the use of the ability.
Different shrines house different energies that open up different parts of the brain. So essentially, a visit to one shrine can give a member of this special race to be able to see parts of the past and future, while another will allow them to use a force-like ability. Again, these are abilities they were born with but where not able to use. All this stuff with the shrines were just part of the culture of an ancient civilization from which this race is descended.
--Recap--
Southern Kingdom wants to take the land of the Northern Kingdom
Northern Kingdom has potentially dangerous substance underground
Southern Kingdom has an ancient creature that can mentally control the substance and make it radiate and cause deaths
"Supermen" from Southern Kingdom look for a shrine
Shrine houses energy that opens neural pathways in the supermen allowing them to use previously latent ability
One of these shrines houses the energy that will give one of them the ability to somehow make the creature increase the radiation levels of the substance.
--My Problem (and the
[Last part was cutt off. Here's the rest]
--My Problem--
So anyway, I guess the main problem I have with my idea here is mostly just that I am not confident about it. The lack of confidence is probably due to the fact that the whole situation is difficult to explain scientifically.
How can a creature mentally control a substance's radiation levels from far away unless it is some kind of god or has magical powers?
How could an energy open up neural pathways in the brains of a special race of people?
Unfortunately, there can't be any spirituality or magic. Instead, the planet has natural energies that we don't have on our planet. That makes sense right? I mean another planet could have energies and elements that we don't have.
