Well, someone did and it might be catching on. As a father of a fifth grader, I was naturally concerned when I heard about the newest form of methamphetamine, known as "candy-meth." An e-mail has been circulating on the Web, alleging that candy-flavored meth is being passed out to kids at elementary schools. To verify evidence to support the claims in the e-mail go to Snopes.com . (see link http://www.snopes.com/horrors/drugs/candymeth.asp), Candy meth is a potential threat to anyone tricked into thinking that it?s not harmful. Parents need to be informed on what kind of drugs are out there. Furthermore, parents need to talk to their children about the present dangers of drugs. Here are the basic facts that exist regarding candy-flavored meth: - candy meth is most commonly flavored with strawberry and is known on the street as "Strawberry Quick." - other flavors may include chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape, and orange - tell your children to never accept candy from strangers, or even friends if received from someone else -meth is especially dangerous for kids, with symptoms of anxiety, paranoia, and increased heart rate I am sure we can expect it in the future as trends tend to move through the larger cities," said Deputy Chief Julian Bernal, head of Dallas' narcotics division. The Drug Enforcement Administration's Dallas office has not encountered the drug, but local agents are on the lookout, said spokeswoman Terri K. Wyatt. "These are evil drug dealers who are marketing to kids," Special Agent Wyatt said. Local bust At 2 a.m. Tuesday, a Lake Worth officer spotted a man sleeping inside a Pontiac Firebird parked at a Sonic restaurant on State Highway 199. When police searched Ronnie N. Smith's car, they found more than 400 grams of strawberry meth in two large plastic bags, in addition to various prescription drugs, several stolen credit cards and driver's licenses and about $1,800 in cash. The pink crystals in the large bags tested positive for meth, said Lake Worth police Capt. Dave Tatsak. While officers weren't inclined to give the stuff a taste test ? doing so would be illegal ? it "definitely smelled like strawberry," he said. Mr. Smith, 45, of Jacksboro, was arrested on drug possession charges and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He requested an attorney and refused to talk to investigators, leaving them with no idea where he got the Strawberry Quick or what his intentions with it were. On April 11, a Fort Worth police officer found the drug during a traffic stop. About 5 p.m., the officer pulled over a Ford Explorer on a traffic violation in the 2300 block of Ridgmar Plaza and found a 20-year-old man in possession of some prescription Tylenol for which he had no prescription. On the way to jail, the officer saw that the man was squirming, and once at the jail, the officer looked under the back seat and found a cigarette wrapper. It contained about a gram of "pink-colored, crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamines," also known as Strawberry Quick, the officer wrote in the report. "Depending on what the manufacturers use to cut the meth down, it can have various coloration, including pink," said Lt. Dean Sullivan, a Fort Worth police spokesman. "But our officers watch the TV news, too, so the catch phrase 'Strawberry Quick' did appear in at least one report." He said he knew of no other accounts of the drug in Fort Worth. About a dozen other local police agencies contacted said they had not come across the drug. Growing concern Concern over strawberry meth spiked nationally in February, when the Nevada Department of Public Safety's special investigations unit issued a police bulletin alerting law enforcement colleagues that the Carson City Sheriff's Department had seized some of the substance in late January. The bulletin noted that the drug first turned up in Sacramento, Calif., where dealers were cooking meth with strawberry-flavored drink mix to cut down on the drug's bitter taste when snorted. "If meth is cut with something after it is cooked, it loses its potency," said Special Agent Wyatt in Dallas. "With this, it's cooked into it. It's not diluted. It retains its potency." Arkansas police also have reported finding strawberry meth, and the DEA in Washington, D.C., reports that a similar pinkish-red crystalline drug has turned up in Washington state, Idaho, New Mexico, Missouri and Minnesota. We are going to build a 7 bedroom, 7 full bath, 3 half bath house near Dallas in a town/city called Cedar Hill. What kind of features in a house of this size are expected? We will have 3 fireplaces and one double sided fireplace, a 4-car garage, walkout finished basement and the house will be 7,412 sq ft when it is completed. We live in Idaho right now and don't know what kind of features are expected in a house of this size in that part of the world. Can anyone help? We plan to have the basics such as tile in the kitchen, dining areas, bathrooms, etc. granite counter tops, central A/C, central Vac, jetted bathtubs and a 20x50 Oasis shaped pool with a spa in the back yard. Are there any other details/features that may help the house be worth more when it is completed? Are there any features I may have missed or something that a lot of houses this size have in the Dallas area? It will be on an acre lot of land as well. I'm not sure if that it enough or too much. I am looking into moving near Dallas in a town/city called Cedar Hill. I was just wondering how much snow there is in that area. We are going to build a house and want to know if it would be worth it to put in heated flooring and a heated driveway. Would either of those be worth it? We live in Idaho right now and we get A LOT of snow and heated everything is definitely a luxury! Would it be worth it to put those features into our house or would it be a waste in that area of the world? Would the heated floor be something that may help when selling the house? Heated driveway seems to be a big no. For those who may want more details of the house it will be a 7 bed, 7 bath and 3 half baths. I looked at how much it will be worth when it is finished and for how much you pay for a house like that, is heated floors something that may lead people to buying my house over others in the same price range and area? Victims have reported extensively on times, dates and places abuse occurred. We have wrestled with how to alert the public as well as members that may be in congregations where abusers have been reported. We offer the following suggestions if you as a Jehovah's Witness are in a town/congregation where a report has been made. Do not allow your children to be alone with anyone in the congregation. Escort your children to the bathroom during meetings and make sure no else is with them when using facilities. Never allow your children to be alone in the car with anyone while in field service. Do not allow any member to study with your child alone. Avoid camping trips in which children go as a group with one or two adults. Avoid baby sitters that are adult males. At a get together watch your children and keep them in sight at all times. Ask elders directly if they know of any abusers in your congregation, use specific names and note their reaction. They will not tell you directly but indirectly you can often figure out who it is. If one elder is less cooperative talk to another till you find out enough information to know the facts. Check the local sex offender list in your area, type in the name of every person in your congregation to see if any are listed. Notice any male member of the congregation that does not have privileges such as microphone or other duties around the congregation, especially if for a long period of time. They can offer talks on the TMS or sermons Service Meeting but are not allowed to conduct meetings. (This is only in case of a confessed child molester) Note any member of the congregation that has children with sever rebellion or emotional problems. Do not allow your children to have sleepovers with anyone. Note members that the elders avoid having around their children. Remember that most members are not aware of who the molesters are in their congregation according to church policy. They do not know. If two Jehovah's Witnesses call at your door one could be a child molester. According to church guidelines all confessed child molesters are required to have a partner when going door to door.
