Identity
Identity With an ace up its sleeve, Identity does for schizophrenia what The Silence of the Lambs did for fava beans and a nice chianti. On the proverbial dark and stormy night, this anxiety-laced thriller offers a tasty blend of And Then There Were None and Psycho, with a dash of Sybil for extra spice and psychosis. Things go from bad to worse when 10 unrelated travelers converge at an isolated motel and proceed to die, one by one, with no apparent connection... until they discover the common detail that's drawn them into this nightmare of relentless trauma. Even as it flunks Abnormal Psychology 101, Michael Cooney's screenplay offers meaty material for a superior ensemble cast including John Cusack and Rebecca DeMornay (who wins the Janet Leigh prize in a bitchy comeback role). Director James Mangold pivots the action around one character (played by his Heavy star, Pruitt Taylor Vince, in eye-twitching cuckoo mode), and half the fun of Identity comes from deciphering who's who, what's what, and who'll be the next to die. --Jeff Shannon

A Single Girl
A Single Girl Next to the blandly flawless feminist heroines played by Demi Moore and Meg Ryan in American movies, Valerie (Virginie Ledoyen), the protagonist in Benoît Jacquot's excellent French film A Single Girl, boasts a whole catalog of shortcomings. Yes, she is young and beautiful (movies are movies, even in the French realist tradition), but she is also selfish, uncertain, irresponsible, and occasionally cruel. Moore's example to the contrary, it's hard to be a saint when you're about to become a single mom, when your boyfriend has been languishing on unemployment, when your own mother behaves more like a dependent child, and when the first job you've been able to find in a year is as a room-service waiter in a luxury hotel.

Valerie's indoctrination at the hotel is her indoctrination into a new system of power and intimidation, some of it economic (the female boss who takes the opportunity to humiliate her), some of it sexual (an abusive coworker who tries to blackmail her), and some of it unpredictably, messily human (the unwanted intimacies she is forced to share with the strangers whose bedrooms and lives she briefly enters). As Valerie, Virginie Ledoyen is a revelation, an intense and serious young performer with the kind of open face that the camera loves. Onscreen every instant, she carries the film with ease and assurance. --Dave Kehr

From the supplier: An analysis of 50 management contracts negotiated between 1997 and 1998 involving 60 US hotels showed that the duration of those contracts was shorter than contracts negotiated in the 1970s and 1980s. The mean term was 11.7 years, with one set of contracts ranging from four to six years, and another set at 20-24 years. Concerning penalties for early contract termination, the operator was entitled to penalty payments in two-thirds of the contracts in case of sale, while a penalty occurred in just one-third of the contracts in case of foreclosure.

Open Question: Can you interpret my nightmare?
In my dream, I lived in a tiny apartment with my mother, which looked very much like my childhood home. It had a very long porch with other apartments, kind of like a motel. It seems that the next door neighbor was a serial killer. He was tall, blonde, and had hair that looked exactly like my boyfriend's. He broke into our apartment and I had no choice but to defend my mother and myself, so I took an enormous butcher knife and plunged it into his abdomen. He didn't even blink. So I pulled it out and was yelling to my mother to look away. I then stuck the knife in his throat and tried to saw his head off. There was a lot of blood, but he didn't die. Well, I woke at that point, and that's it. Any ideas? I have no problem with my bf and mother, and my daughter and I live with my mother at the present time. I do, however, have problems with the boyfriend, totally unrelated to mom. Anyway, it wasn't him. It just had hair like his. (more...)

Resolved Question: Give me 5 'Classic Horror Movie cliches' that would HAVE to be in a movie to quench your 'horrific thirsts' ? ?
here are mine: 1. Hot blonde female barricading herself in a room with no way out other than the way she came in. I prefer 'attics' as my favourate choice of barricading environments, but female restrooms at creepy motels are equally effective heh. (why are you all shaking your heads while reading this ? what ? :-D ) 2. rushing back inside a house to find the keys to a truck/car....you all know how much that initiates the line 'omg noooo don't go back there' from the females especialy. 3. Being chased in some woods/forrest (aka 'the stumbling female victim') - some of the best horror movies have at least one scene like this, usualy its a (surprise surprise) big chested hot female as the scared witless 'pursuitee' and its usualy some psychopath chasing after her. From my experience what makes the best chase scenes is a) hotter but dumber the chick the better b) the more sadistic the potential psycho chasing her, the better for the audience. c) oh and she has to fall down at least twice 4. College kids in a car unning out of gas/or battery floods on a long stretch of a highway followed by a creepy redneck in a dump truck pulling over asking 'everything okay ?' (he usualy has a creepy smile and a missing tooth). 5. And lastly, what horror movie would NOT have the classic ' stuffed toys with missing body parts' stacked neatly in a bedroom ? nothing sends a chill down my spine more than this type of scene - usualy its a creepy house with a room a child use to live in heh. so there you have, a concise yet imforative account on what I percieve as the 5 fundamentaly ESSENTIAL 'horror movie cliches'. I want to know from ALL you gore/horror/scary movie enthusiasts out there what YOURE top 5 horror movie cliches are, and if perhaps i've been foolish enough to warrant an end to my very own existence via being in any of the aforementioned 5 horror movie cliches listed above heh. so could you give me 5 'Classic Horror Movie cliches' that would HAVE to be in a movie to quench your 'horrific thirsts' ? Resolved Question: VERY INTERESTING!! Please Help!! about gaining weight. ?
Okay now I dont know whats going on with my body and why do i gain and loose weight so fast. Well I am only 21years old and have a breastfeeding 8 month old baby(c-section). After my pregnacy I weight 60kgs(132llbs) and after 7 months i started loosing my weight and I became 58kgs(127llbs) . But last month my husband and his family decided to go for holdiays and on the way everyone stoped by KFC, and I only had one burger, few nuggets and mashed patoes( I usually dont eat Junk food, unless I had no other choice and I also go to the gym regular). and then the next day when i went to the gym in the motel I weighed back to 60kgs(132llbs) Then after returning back and I was back to my regular meals I again lost weight and now weighted 55 kgs(121 llbs) Now yesterday my husband and his friends decided to go to some arabic resturant , and there I only had arabic tea, some rice, 1/4 arabic bread, 1/4 pita bread with some meat in it, 1/2 kabab. and today when i woke up and cheacked my weight I was 59kgs(129.8llbs) Now i dont understand when all day yesterday I was cleaning my house, taking care of my baby, went to the gym(45mins), wentto play badmintton(10 mins - baby started crying), went swimming (1hour). Now am not understanding that how i gained 5 kgs(app.11llbs) in just 1 night .... Please Help, I dont know whats going on. Does this happen to anyone else??? (more...)

Resolved Question: What are my choices as a to-be teen mother?
I was wondering what financial support can i get? Im 15 and and almost 3 months pregnant and i have not a SINGLE penny to my name. I was relying on my boyfriend ( now ex) for financial support. But I broke it off last night as I relised his not a good role model for my baby to be around. He got really angry and drove me to a motel , paid for three nights stay and left me here. Saying he doesnt care about me or our child and I'll never ever get any money out of him. So now im stuck here in a shitty motel with nothing but a backpack and my laptop.. Im 3 hours away from where my mother lives, but she wont answer her phone.. I have absouletly NO money and im freaking out I have no idea how to get out of here. By bad role model a mean , he uses and sells drugs , tends to binge drink , is techinally a pimp , is basically a satanist and he told me he wanted nothing to do with our baby if it was a girl. I relise I'm not angel myself, after all I got myself into this, now i have to get myself out.. I just dont think his a good person for my baby to be around (more...)

Resolved Question: What gift best says "thank you for letting me crash at your house" when you couldnt get to your own due 2 fire?
I was working an event in Pamona (a few cities, 45 min away) from 7am-4pm this past Saturday when my town (Anaheim Hills) caught on fire. The freways to get to my house were all blocked from wehre i was (57, 91 at green river, 71 near the 91... ect) Anyhow, I had 3 choices, go way past my city, in really bad traffic (like a 5 hour drive or so) stay at a motel, or crash at the one friends house I could get to with all of the blocked roads. So I chose the friend (even thought I never got ahold of her on the phone) and she was so welcoming and nice to me. I know that the thought of giving her something as a thanks would cross her mind, that she would be happy to help me anytime, but I feel like I have to give some kind of gesture of thanks. Any ideas? I am just looking for somehting small, hopeing to spend around $20. Thanks in advance! (more...)

Resolved Question: How do I ask a Motel to give us a better weekly rate?
My Husband and I work for a company, that requires us to travel and we are stay in motels or hotels for weeks at a time. At the current time we are staying in one of the cheapest hotels in the area, but even I think the price is to high we are paying 1420.00 a month, we don't get housekeeping if I want the room cleaned I have to ask them to clean the room, which doesn't bother me to ask but they only clean our room once a week. I just feel that the price is to high for a room, and where we are located at there is not allot of choices. So how do I ask for a better rate? (more...)
