Open Question: Theists: Just curious to know your honest and immediate reaction to the Atheist bus advertisement.?
Below is an article I found.... Atheist adverts declaring that "there's probably no God" have been placed on 800 buses around Britain after an unprecedented fundraising campaign. Organisers originally hoped to put the message on just a handful of London buses, as an antidote to posters put up by religious groups which they claimed were "threatening eternal damnation" to non-believers. But after the campaign received high-profile support from the prominent atheist Prof Richard Dawkins and the British Humanist Association, the modest £5,500 target was met within minutes and more than £140,000 has now been donated since the launch in October. Ariane Sherine, a writer who first thought of the atheist bus adverts, said: "You wait ages for an atheist bus, then 800 come along at once. I hope they will brighten people's days and make them smile on their way to work." The campaign has even been welcomed by religious groups for increasing the profile of debate about faith, and although there was tight security outside the launch event by the Royal Albert Hall, the campaigners have not received any threats from fundamentalists. Some atheist supporters of the campaign were disappointed that the wording of the adverts did not declare categorically that God does not exist, although there were fears that this could break advertising guidelines. Hanne Stinson, chief executive of the British Humanist Association, said the adverts were "overwhelmingly positive" and were intended to reassure agnostics and atheists that there is nothing wrong with not believing in God. My first initial reaction was "Figures it was in Britain and not America" and then I stopped caring. So, other than you being thrilled to pieces as I'm sure most of you will say on here, which is fine (but boring), are there any issues or concerns you have with this? If so, please explain why? Thank you. Losasha - So you have issues with the first amendment I see. What are your reasons for denying this right? (more...)

Open Question: What are your thoughts on this article?
PORT ANGELES, Wash. ? A 16-year-old girl suspected of drowning an infant boy in a toilet and throwing the body in the trash was charged with murder Wednesday. Lauryn Louise Last, of Port Angeles, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the death of the infant believed to be her son. Last remained jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail with arraignment scheduled Friday. She faces up to life in prison if convicted. Last's attorney, Suzanne Hayden of the Clallam County public defender's office, did not immediately return a phone call Wednesday. The baby's body was found Monday by authorities combing 60 tons of trash at a dump site near Tacoma. An affidavit filed that day said Last "put her baby face down into a toilet and allowed it to drown for several minutes until it died. Then she threw her son into the trash can outside in a plastic garbage bag." Port Angeles police Chief Terry Gallagher had said that DNA testing to confirm the infant's parentage might not be available for a month or more. Prosecutors said Last's father, Ronald Last Jr., 41, was charged Monday with possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies, and with concealing a birth, a gross misdemeanor. He remained in the Clallam County jail. Investigators in Port Angeles, about 65 miles northwest of Seattle, believe the baby boy died after being born to the girl on or about Dec. 31, and then was put in the trash. (more...)

Open Question: Can someone summarize the article below for me..First person to summarize it get best answer?
Manhattan prosecutors are expected to announce manslaughter charges on Monday against the rigger who was overseeing the raising of a tower crane on the East Side last year when it collapsed, killing seven, according to people briefed on the case. The rigger, William Rapetti, has also been charged with criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment and second-degree assault in the spectacular disaster, in which the 22-story crane plunged across East 51st Street, piercing one building and tearing terraces off another, the people said. The accident, on March 15, played out across a two-block swath of the Turtle Bay neighborhood, leaving two dozen people injured and the streets strewn with rubble. The charges ? including seven counts each of second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide ? are contained in an indictment that is expected to be unsealed on Monday, the people said. Mr. Rapetti?s company, Rapetti Rigging Services, will also be charged, the people said. All spoke on the condition of anonymity because the charges remained sealed. Mr. Rapetti, 48, of Massapequa Park, N.Y., was set to surrender on Monday morning, said his lawyer, Arthur L. Aidala, who noted that five of the seven people who died were friends of his client?s, men working with him on the crane that day. Mr. Aidala said he was confident that Mr. Rapetti, an expert in the operation and rigging of tower cranes, would be cleared. ?He did nothing wrong, and operated at that site in a way that is beyond reproach,? Mr. Aidala said. The indictment, the result of an investigation by the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Robert M. Morgenthau, represents the first criminal charges stemming directly from a spate of fatal accidents involving tower cranes last year. Alicia Maxey Greene, a spokeswoman for Mr. Morgenthau?s office, declined to comment on the case. The March 15 collapse, and a second fatal collapse two months later, led to the resignation of the city?s building commissioner and the arrests of its chief crane inspector, one of his subordinates and a crane company owner on corruption charges unrelated to the collapses ? cases that resulted from the scrutiny following the accident. The second collapse, on East 91st Street on May 31, remains under investigation by the Rackets Bureau in Mr. Morgenthau?s office, the same group of prosecutors that is handling the case against Mr. Rapetti and that brought the corruption cases, one law enforcement official has said. The two accidents, coupled with a series of disclosures about missteps by city agencies and others in the fatal fire at the former Deutsche Bank building in 2007, exposed the deeply flawed operations of the Buildings Department. In particular, the crane collapses focused attention on the department?s troubled Cranes and Derricks Division, where a handful of inspectors, some lacking in experience, were overwhelmed by the workload brought on by the city?s building boom. The charges against Mr. Rapetti stem from what one person briefed on the case said were ?reckless and negligent rigging practices,? which caused the failure of four nylon slings that were being used to hoist a huge square steel crane component to the top of the crane. The component, called a collar, was being moved to raise the crane higher to continue construction, a process known as jumping the crane. Mr. Rapetti also failed to follow the crane manufacturer?s specification that the collar be supported by eight slings, the person briefed on the case said. One sling had ?substantial pre-existing damage, including cuts and severe dislocation? that would have been readily apparent to Mr. Rapetti had he inspected it before use, as the building code and federal regulations require, the person said. When the slings ripped and the collar broke free at the 18th floor, it plunged down the side of the crane, smashing into a second collar and shearing it from the building before landing on top of a third collar near the crane?s base, destabilizing the tower. The weight of the crane?s cab then pulled the tower down. In September, federal regulators accused Rapetti Rigging Services of failing to inspect the slings, remove a defective sling from service, protect the slings and comply with the crane manufacturer?s specifications when raising or lowering the crane. Those citations, by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, carried penalties totaling $220,000 and included three willful violations, the most severe issued by the agency. Mr. Rapetti had been cooperating with OSHA?s investigation, said his lawyer, Mr. Aidala, who added that Mr. Rapetti came from a family of crane operators and had worked on the machines since he was a youth. He noted that Mr. Rapetti worked at ground zero operating a giant crane from the day after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack until late that year, a job he won because of his skill and experience. Open Question: Wanna know why Obama is a genius?
you know , you cant put 2 experienced men to work together in a team, its like the way " Real Madrid" tried to put all best players together and then lost so he choose an inexperienced CIA director whose job is only to report to the Director of National security Adm. Dennis Blair Here is an article from Abc news where the former CIA director says " Former CIA director John M. Deutch called Panetta's selection "an absolutely fabulous choice" that, combined with the expected nomination of retired Adm. Dennis Blair as the director of national intelligence, creates "a tremendously powerful team that will do fabulously well for the intelligence community." As CIA director, Panetta would report to Blair. Panetta was also praised by ex-CIA director George Tenet, according to a former intelligence official familiar with the views of the former CIA chief. The official said Tenet "believes Panetta is an excellent nomination." http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=6582884&page=1 and here is what a CIA director does : "Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (D/CIA) serves as the head of the Central Intelligence Agency, which is part of the United States Intelligence Community. He/She reports to the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). The Director is assisted by the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. The Director is nominated by the President, with the concurring or nonconcurring recommendation from the Director of National Intelligence [1] and must be confirmed by majority vote from the Senate [2]. Statute does not specifically include active military personnel from being nominated for the position nor does it exclude them." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_the_Central_Intelligence_Agency (more...)

Resolved Question: GOOGLE HOMEPAGE VANDELIZED!!!!?
Earlier today the Google homepage was vandalized by a group of teens. The popular search engine was deformed after getting bashed with a hammer, shot with a machine gun and burns by lighters, not to mention getting a remodeling with lots of new colours. Police still have not found the teenage vandals but they do know the reason for the attack. "Teens are just to bored these days..." said Chief Police Officer Brian DeBrian. "They are too bored, video games are old and boring, getting out and being fit is to hard for them so they stay in and be fat and I think parents need to step in and sort some things out". A teenage citizen outraged by these statements and by the officers generalizing got up and threw his shoe at him, but the chief officer failed to duck and the shoe hit him in the nose. Google released a statement saying that through all of its logs and searches and tracing people it found the vandals and caught them in the act of vandalizing the Yahoo home page. The mess was soon cleaned up, but the teens escaped. "We need to work together on this, so if you have any information call the special hot line set up for this, 1800 109 348 702 385 970 948 570 958 704 987 502 493 857 203 489 588". Pictures can be found here:http://bigfilez.com/files/363081google_vandel.jpg I had to this article for school, it had to include two real life issues, it had to be funny but in a serious way. It is really rough, I just did this in 5 minutes. My issue was teen obesity etc and parents need to encourage children and teens to do stuff and they need to help. What do you think? I have nothing against Google and I have no intention of upsetting anyone with the content of this article. Please see the funny side of this. IT IS NOT REAL!!! juggledan: lol, yeah, I didnt know whether to or not. oh well. (more...)

Open Question: Is it time for the Prime Minister to recuse certain appointments due to conflict of interest ?
and review the efficacy that existing and potential placements have on diplomatic policy and process. Rohitha has stated in the press that certain posts have been filled with "caretaker" diplomats until new corps can be trained but I wonder why there are newly created appointments at new venues staffed with persons without any diplomatic expertise and truly nepotistic connections? I would remind that for every overstep of power there is a remedy. When common sense is not a sensibility, a full accounting of diplomatic resources is neccesitated. This includes a full review of qualifications of the present and past diplomatic porfolio. I wither the thought of how some people achieved their thoughts on democratic diplomacy. Selective recollection of conversation is no excuse for prohibition of established procedures of good governance. http://www.lakbimanews.lk/news/laknew4.htm Just because we have had a protracted war on terrorism it does not mean that a fisticuff between and within the three branches is acceptable. I would hasten all those I spoke with to recall that the primary policy of Sri Lanka that was discussed was equal opportunity for growth, equal representation under the law, equal distribution of services, equal justice. I am sure that if a certain 24 year old son-in-law-to-be found himself party to an executable offense in the Middle East that the Foreign Ministry would be in an uproar, but I have to hear a query about 2 nationals that were executed yesterday. I am not commenting on Saudi legistlature, or the justice or injustice of such. My inquiry is rooted in the fact that the Ministry that oversees such affairs is apparently more interested in cocktail parties and junkets with golf club managers than it is in its citizens. The stability, policy and efficacy of a government cannot be based on whether the Chief Executive is in town. It cannot be based on created false tests to verify standards. It cannot be bantered or bartered about. I see much commendable development in Sri Lanka but future development will not be based on political posturing/jockeying it will be based on the fullfilment of the equitable goals to bring energy, quality education, due process, security and better quality of life to the many. It will not happen overnight and it cannot be fabricated, it must be grown-thus prefabrication is out of the question. There is no such thing as democracy-in-a-box, but the unruly behaviour that has spread throughout the world will be put in check, everywhere including Sri Lanka. What I am seeing in this article is the propogation of engineered foods, an item that is not a part of our domestic or foreign policy. The Ministries are to forward the National Policy not personal agenda. It is apparent that a National/International Policy Statement needs to be created by the Executive and the Cabinet. Line item #1 is to eliminate terrorism while maintaining sovreignity. Prior to making appointments consider the dis-appointments of misplaced placements. Furthermore, refrain from tete-a-tete's with foreign leaders in hotel rooms when there exists government accomodations for meetings that pertain to governmental affairs. Consider this my request to Nasheed for full divulgence to the Executive. Please pass my congratulations to Linda Spelenwade(sp?) my number is at the LA Consul and with the President's Secretary. This is to be a time of national pride - I ask all our citizens to cloak yourselves in our national identity. Its our flag and our country. (more...)

Resolved Question: What are the charges for this crime? (PLEASE ANSWER!!)?
What are the charges for this crime? Read this article Metro Police Gang Unit capped the most prolific year in its history by making a series of narcotics trafficking arrests of members from the Crazy White Boys gang. Six members and associates of the Crazy White Boys gang were arrested last week on drug distribution charges for selling close to 2,000 homemade ecstasy pills and painkillers to undercover Gang Unit detectives. Arrested as a result of the four-month investigation were Joseph ?Swap Shop Joe? Tarre, the alleged leader of the gang, and five other individuals. Also arrested were Tarre?s girlfriend Kellie Applegate, Crazy White Boys members Robert Dailey, Jonathan Bell and Samuel Lusty in addition to Lusty?s girlfriend Amanda Fitih. Tarre delivered homemade ecstasy pills in quantities up to 500 on four occasions to the undercover detective, police said. According to Detective Gerry Hyder, this was the first bust of Crazy White Boys members since the Gang Unit was formed in 2004. Hyder said Crazy White Boys were attached to the street hip hop culture and often used the money earned selling drugs to make music. Swap Shop Joe was a back-up singer for local rapper Haystak, according to Hyder, and had gone on tour with him in the past. ?With anything, you need money to make music, you need money to lay down tracks,? said Hyder, who added that although the Gang Unit was aware of Crazy White Boys, they weren?t suspected of any more violent or gun-related crimes. ?A lot of these guys are very smart guys, especially Joe, he?s a smart, business-minded guy. He?s sang on a lot of albums.? According to police, Crazy White Boys are not a white supremacist group and in fact have some black members in their ranks as well. Hyder said the investigation showed there were two local chapters of the Crazy White Boys. There was the Straight Pits, led by Tarre, and the I4NI group. Lusty was a member of the latter group and was charged with selling more than 400 painkillers to detectives. ?This investigation shows that gang activity in Nashville transcends race, gender and age groups,? Metro Police Chief Ronal Serpas said. ?Our Gang Unit is doing an excellent job behind the scenes monitoring and investigating gang activity in a number of different areas across Davidson County.? The statistics back up Serpas?s praise. After having their unit doubled in size in 2007 to 12 detectives and two sergeants, the Gang Unit had a record number of arrests (2,359), felony arrests (321) and gun seizures (136). Hyder said he hoped the Crazy White Boys arrests would earn attention for the fact that suspected drug dealers would no longer be on the streets of Nashville, especially the Hermitage area where Tarre?s group operated. ?I think this should be a case that gets a lot of interest, not because they?re white, but because we have people that were involved in drug activity off the streets,? Hyder said. ?We have people that were involved with manufacturing ecstasy pills in a residential area that are not doing that any more.? How Long do you think this "Joseph Tarre" guy will be in jail?? And any idea of how much bail would be?? (more...)
