Trust transference in brick and click retailers: An investigation of the before-online-visit phase [An article from: Information & Management]
Trust transference in brick and click retailers: An investigation of the before-online-visit phase [An article from: Information & Management] This digital document is a journal article from Information & Management, published by Elsevier in 2007. Description:
We examined the formation of online trust encountered by potential customers of a brick and click retailer before they visit its online website; this phase of the purchasing experience has been under-investigated in trust literature. Since a brick and click retailer is eager to attract offline customers to its website based on trust in the brick and mortar stores, our exploratory study investigated, (1) Can customers' offline trust in a retailer affect their online trust (in the website operations of the retailer)?; (2) What other factors might be influential on online trust? A social relations and networks perspective was adopted to explain customers' online trust formation during the before-online-visit phase. Findings from a sample of 246 offline customers who had never visited a supermarket's website revealed that word-of-mouth, offline trust, and expected sanctioning power were significant in forming online trust. Furthermore, findings showed that word-of-mouth was more influential than offline trust based on a customers' personal experience with the supermarket's physical stores. This provided empirical evidence on how and why some pure online retailers outperformed brick and click retailers.

Resolved Question: help me my boyfriend was sacked?
i think its unfair dismissal he worked for a well known high street retailer for a year and a half then part of the store was bought over by another company he didnt like the job and wanted a change so he moved departments in the store and started with another company. he was 'on probation' and was there for only four weeks then they sacked him 2 weeks before xmas, now we are in trouble, we are struggling financially i think its unfair dismissal, the thing was there was an error with the tills, and a few occassions there was money down on my boyf till code. he isnt aware of how the hec it happended, he certainly NEVER took any money, he asked them to investigate it but they could prove how it happended only that it was down money. this happended 3 times each time and investigation was done he was warned, and then the final time they just sacked him my boyf tried to explain that it was a fault/error in the system. it has happened to other staff but they got kept on cos they have been there years, i dont want to let them get away with this, i used to work as a legal secretary and im sure he can sue them for loss of earnings, emotional stress etc trouble is we are skint and cant afford legal fees, could we get legal aid? should we pursue this? i dont want to let them away with it, he was a good employee and they cant prove that how the tills were down. what steps should he take now? and is it too late it only happended 2 weeks ago? also how long would this legal process take? Resolved Question: Would you say this is a good prank letter?
Would you say this is a good prank letter? 06 April 07 Dear Mr Brown, With reference to your telephone conversation on the 29th March with my colleague Jeremy Dundole, thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns regarding our continence products. All concerns are important to TENA and we welcome the opportunity to address the issues you have raised. I am sorry to hear about the problems you have experienced recently with the TENA disposable pull-up range. TENA are the leading supplier of hygiene products for bladder weakness and faecal incontinence here in the UK. As such, we find it deeply disturbing that your TENA pad unexpectedly exploded in a public shopping area. The fact that this led to faecal matter being projected over yourself and in your proximity causes us great concern. We are sincerely sorry, for we can only speculate on how unpleasant this must have been for you and the shoppers around you. After a lengthy investigation we could not find any sufficient evidence to say our product was at fault, and therefore, can not take responsibility. However, we would be happy to compensate you with a voucher that is redeemable for our Tena Slip Maxi range at various retailers that stock TENA products. We also suggest you use a more absorbent undergarment, as our adult disposable pull-up may be unsuitable for your chronic faecal incontinence. We recommend you try our TENA SLIP all-in-one nappy for added security. As a further gesture of good will, we will send you a packet of our TENA SLIPS as soon as possible. Should you encounter any more problems with your incontinence pads, please get in touch as soon as possible with Mr Brown on the number above, or email myself at jenny-dribbles@hotmail.co.uk (more...)

Voting Question: Are you voting YES on Prop 2?
http://www.yesonprop2.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=35&Itemid=75 This November 4, Californians should vote YES! on Prop 2 ? a modest measure that stops cruel and inhumane treatment of animals, ending the practice of cramming farm animals into cages so small the animals can't even turn around, lie down or extend their limbs. Voting YES! on Prop 2... Prevents cruelty to animals. It?s simply wrong to confine veal calves, breeding pigs, and egg-laying hens in tiny cages barely larger than their bodies. Calves are tethered by the neck and can barely move, pigs in severe confinement bite the metal bars of their crates, and hens get trapped and even impaled in their wire cages. We wouldn?t force our pets to live in filthy, cramped cages for their whole lives, and we shouldn?t force farm animals to endure such misery. All animals, including those raised for food, deserve humane treatment. Improves our health and food safety. We all witnessed the cruel treatment of sick and crippled cows exposed by a Southern California slaughter plant investigation this year, prompting authorities to pull meat off school menus and initiate a nationwide recall. Factory farms put our health at risk?cramming tens of thousands of animals into tiny cages, fostering the spread of diseases that may affect people. YES! on Prop 2 is better for animals?and for us. Supports family farmers. California family farmers support YES! on Prop 2 because they know that better farming practices enhance food quality and safety. Increasingly, they?re supplying major retailers like Safeway and Burger King. Factory farms cut corners and drive family farmers out of business when they put profits ahead of animal welfare and our health. Protects air and water and safeguards the environment. The American Public Health Association has called for a moratorium on new factory farms because of the devastating effects these operations can have on surrounding communities, spreading untreated waste on the ground and contaminating our waterways, lakes, groundwater, soil, and air. Prop 2 helps stop some of the worst abuses and protects our precious natural resources. That?s why California Clean Water Action and Sierra Club-California support YES! on Prop 2. Is a reasonable and common-sense reform. Prop 2 provides ample time?until 2015?for factory farms using these severe confinement methods to shift to more humane practices. Arizona, Colorado, Florida, and Oregon have passed similar laws. The Humane Society of the United States, the ASPCA, hundreds of California veterinarians, including the California Veterinary Medical Association; California family farmers; the Center for Food Safety, the Consumer Federation of America, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the United Farm Workers, and the Cesar Chavez Foundation; Republican and Democratic elected officials; California religious leaders; and many others. Resolved Question: Would you appeal this?
I was a team leader in charge of thirty others working overnight in a major retailer. I was caught outside a building with a group of others, smoking whilst on a paid break, by my boss. He elected to suspend me on the spot. No one else was suspended. I was given a Investigation and Hearing and ultimately fired for Gross Misconduct as I had breached a policy/procedure. The Policy clearly states that colleagues shall only be permitted to smoke on unpaid breaks. Unfortunatlely my nightshift is a ten hour shift, so we are expected to go ten hours without a cigarette. Colleagues on the day shift are allowed to flout this rule and have been allowed to go out in paid breaks, with the bosses blessing as this is not percieved to be a 'security' risk, even though it is still in breach of policy. I am being sacked for flouting the same rules as the boss. Would you appeal? (more...)

Resolved Question: Ofgem to review energy industries?
The UK's energy regulator has announced a second major investigation into the gas and electricity industry. Ofgem is to investigate the UK's 20-year-old regime governing the regulation of the gas and electricity networks. The two-year review will examine whether customers can expect to receive value for money amid "growing investment challenges" being faced by energy providers in the future. Last month Ofgem announced an investigation into the UK's gas and electricity markets. It came in the wake of major price rises this year from five of the UK's big six domestic energy retailers. Do you think we get value for money? i spend a fortune on gas and electricity and i have just received my water rates, which may i add, have increased by nearly £100 this year. (more...)

Resolved Question: Feel like your liberties are been taken away? Next time you recommend a book........?
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Federal prosecutors have withdrawn a subpoena seeking the identities of thousands of people who bought used books through online retailer Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), newly unsealed court records show. The withdrawal came after a judge ruled the customers have a First Amendment right to keep their reading habits from the government. "The (subpoena's) chilling effect on expressive e-commerce would frost keyboards across America," U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephen Crocker wrote in a June ruling. "Well-founded or not, rumors of an Orwellian federal criminal investigation into the reading habits of Amazon's customers could frighten countless potential customers into canceling planned online book purchases," the judge wrote in a ruling he unsealed last week. Resolved Question: Vegans, did you know WholeSoy & Co. blueberry yogurt was recalled?
For undeclared dairy. It is supposed to be a soy yogurt, not a dairy yogurt. WholeSoy & Co. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Dairy in Blueberry Yogurt Contact: WholeSoy & Co. 415-434-3020 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- San Francisco, CA -- June 7, 2007 -- WholeSoy & Co. of San Francisco, CA is recalling 34,656 cups of WholeSoy & Co. Blueberry yogurt because it may contain undeclared dairy. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to dairy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The yogurt was distributed nationwide through retailers. This batch of blueberry has "best by" date of June 22. The UPC code is 664372600086. The containers are 6oz plastic yogurt cups. The recall was initiated after allergy tests confirmed the presence of dairy in samples sent for testing after two customers reported allergic reactions. Subsequent investigation has not revealed the source of contamination. http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/wholesoy06_07.html No answers to this question after almost a whole day? If I were a vegan and found out that a soy yogurt contained dairy I'd be furious. Very interesting that no one has answered this question. (more...)

Resolved Question: Got this from Yahoo news Menu Foods Delayed recall?
By MARK JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer Fri Mar 23, 12:16 PM ET ALBANY, N.Y. - Rat poison has been found in pet food blamed for the deaths of at least 16 cats and dogs, a spokeswoman for the State Department of Agriculture and Markets said Friday. Spokeswoman Jessica Chittenden would not identify the chemical or its source beyond saying it was a rodent poison. ABC News reported it was aminopterin that may have been on imported wheat used in the pet food. Aminopterin is used to kill rats in some countries but is not registered for that use in the United States, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The chemical, also a cancer drug, is highly toxic in high doses. Officials from the agriculture department and Cornell University's Animal Health Diagnostic Center would not immediately confirm the ABC report but scheduled a news conference Friday afternoon to release laboratory findings from tests on the pet food. The Food and Drug Administration has said the investigation was focusing on wheat gluten in the food. Wheat gluten itself would not cause kidney failure, but the common ingredient could have been contaminated by heavy metals or mold toxins, the FDA said. State and FBI officials said they knew of no criminal investigations in the case. The pet deaths led to a recall of 60 million cans and pouches of pet food produced by Menu Foods and sold throughout North America under 95 brand names. There have been several reports of kidney failure in pets that ate the recalled brands, and the company has confirmed the deaths of 15 cats and one dog. Menu Foods last week recalled "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food. The recall sparked concern among pet owners across North America. It includes food sold under store brands carried by Wal-Mart, Kroger, Safeway and other large retailers, as well as private labels such as Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. Menu Foods is majority owned by Menu Foods Income Fund of Streetsville. The company also makes foods for zoo cats, but those products are unaffected by the recall. The company's chief executive and president said Menu Foods delayed announcing the recall until it could confirm that the animals had eaten its product before dying. Two earlier complaints from consumers whose cats had died involved animals that lived outside or had access to a garage, which left open the possibility they had been poisoned by something other than contaminated food, he said. Menu Foods planned a media teleconference for later Friday, a spokesman said. A spokesman for New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said he was not aware of any criminal investigation involving the tainted food. FBI spokesman Paul Holstein in Albany said Friday he was not aware of any FBI involvement in the case. "I don't know where we'll go from here," he said. A complete list of the recalled products along with product codes, descriptions and production dates was posted online by Menu Foods and is available at http://tinyurl.com/2pn6mm. The company also designated two phone numbers that pet owners could call for information: (866) 463-6738 and (866) 895-2708. ___ Associated Press writer Andrew Bridges in Washington contributed to this report. ___ On the Net: FDA pet food recall information: http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/petfood.html Menu Foods: http://tinyurl.com/2pn6mm http://www.petconnection.com/ (more...)

Voting Question: Is there any legal recourse I can take to get a refund from a retailer outside the United States.?
I bought a sculpture from a retailer, Mexico Lindo, in Cabo San Lucas while on vacation last July. The item was shipped to me in U.S. via DSL & was insured. However, it arrived broken. I have photos & video of broken sculpture upon unwrapping. I contacted retailer to notify them & proceeded to file a claim w/DSL. After investigation, DSL paid the claim, but come to find out they paid it to Mexico Lindo as they were the shipper. I notifed retailer of outcome & requested they refund my money. I've made numerous attempts by phone since we received item in Aug. 06 & to date the retailer has not refunded money. They just give me the run around or tell me they will check on it. I have even tried disputing it thru the credit card co. we used but they couldn't resolve due to length of time. Is there anything I can do legally or otherwise to get my money back outside of flying to Cabo? Retailer has now been paid twice for item, by DSL & by me but all I have to show for it is a broken sculpture. (more...)
