Are Too Many Jobs Going Abroad? / TIME Cover: March 1, 2004, Art Poster by TIME Magazine
Are Too Many Jobs Going Abroad? / TIME Cover: March 1, 2004, Art Poster by TIME Magazine The most eagerly awaited event in the editorial cycle at TIME Magazine is always the selection of the cover. The best covers capture the zeitgeist of the week while surviving the judgment of history. As browsing this collection of TIME cover art prints shows, TIME is as good a record as any of who and what mattered over the past 80-plus years. And so when TIME captures a person, an event or a trend within its iconic red borders, the magazine is adding that extra dose of significance that no other publication can quite match. That is one reason why the original artwork for more than 800 TIME covers now resides in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. Thanks to an amazing roster of artists, photographers and graphic designers, from TIME's earliest charcoal drawings of cover subjects to its later black-and-white photography to the more recent paintings and stunning color photography, TIME covers have always been, sometimes quite literally, works of great art. And, while the times may change, the TIME cover, with its iconic red border, has never lost its power to immediately send the signal that this person or event or idea is important to our lives, that in some way history is being made before our eyes.

Open Question: Am I being too picky?
I'm seventeen and I've been job hunting for a couple of weeks now. I'm mainly looking to be a hostess at a restaurant. Anyway, Outback called me today and requested an interview. This is great... but the other day I had a little "mini interview" with the manager at Stix and I got along great with him. What do I do if Outback offers me a job and Stix calls me soon after? Also, how long can I wait after they say they're willing to hire me before I accept the job? I'm desperate for a job, but I REALLY prefer Stix. Any suggestions? Yes, I'm a senior in high school and I plan to work part time. (more...)

I'm gonna start going to the gym and working out, and then I think learn another language (French or Spanish maybe), but what else could I do/learn to make myself seem more interesting to people (or help impress girls)? Obviously getting a good job, so don't suggest that. I'm 19 (more...)

Open Question: I'm hopefully getting a new position/job at another place..?
Would it look really terrible to leave my current position for a new one? If I can, I will put in 2 weeks, but I don't know if I can. I just really hate the job I'm at now and I'm applying for a different position in another place and it's looking promising. (more...)

Open Question: He wants a divorce - what is wrong with me?
i haven't done anything wrong. - he just doesn't like me. We have been married for a year now. we have very different personalities, i just don't see why he has to hate me? im 25 and he is 30. my job wasn't as great as his, we both went to university. i studied fashion with business and he did postgraduate in business and works for a bank as a project manager. im also pretty looking! just not as clever as him. he is good looking as well. he has a different personality and ways of thinking. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AizOzr_0s7FLYrudq5Ba5FEgBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20090108154800AAWT9sS he said when we got married i had to stay at home - and i did. worst decision ever, i know. also im not competent in bed. Open Question: Make Out Session... read on?
me and this guy i like are going to the movies this weekend. im pretty sure he likes me too.. but im not really looking for a relationship. just like a friends with benefits type deal. i have a few questions... 1. what's the best way to make out in a theater (were going to sit in the back away from people so we don't bother them) like the best position 'cause it might be a little awkward, knowing the way theater seats are...? 2. where should i touch him? and i heard guys like being touched slightly on the inner thigh by his ya know what, but how can i do that without letting him think i wanna give him a Hand Job/BJ? 3. what excatly is the point of getting a guy "excited"? i know it's a good sign that he thinks im attractive or whatever, but where do you go from there? im reallllllllllly unexperienced, this will be my first time going to the movies with a guy by myslef. and no, im not like 12. im 15.. gonna be 16 pretty soon. thanks for your time. :) lol to the first person who answered, thanks but those tips seem more like for guys... im not wanting to make the first move. Open Question: How do I apply a Perl command only to a specific line?
I need to do some in-place editing, and sed just isn't getting the job done, so I must turn to Perl. I will be working with very large files, so I cannot monkey about with making copies of them or anything. My script looks like this: perl -p -i -e 's|[search expression]|[replacement value]|g' [filename] The file name is an argument for my script, which will be run in the C-Shell. (It has to be; this will go in the middle of a larger tool that does other C-Shell things.) I know -p makes the perl command apply to every line, but I want it to work on just lines with a particular line number. How do I do that? Come to think of it, it'd be great if I could use the same command to edit multiple lines at a time so the computer only has to make one temporary file. The files my script will be editing will have hundreds of thousands of lines in them, so it's important that I don't have to make a new file every time I need to change a line. (more...)
