Open Question: Am I on the right track to getting accepted into the Tisch school of the arts?
I am a sophomore in high school. My GPA is 3.6. I am in honors classes. I have been taking voice for 3 years. I have also taken guitar lessons for 7 years. I have been playing soccer for 12 years. I have preformed in many many musical theatre shows locally and have also participated in many broadway showcases. I took 3 years of improv classes and have preformed in many improv shows. I am currently a part of a theatre group that has traveled around the cities and towns near me preforming in different things like Shakespeare plays and benefit concerts. I am planning on interning with a family friend who produces commercials over the summer so I can get some experience with that and try to get more of a understanding about the whole business. I am also planning on taking some acting on film classes this year since I feel like I need more experience with that. Am I on the right track to getting into the Tisch school of arts? I know I might sound kind of obnoxcious but I really want to go there. My dream is to become an actress (although I know that is many, MANY, peoples dreams haha). (more...)

Resolved Question: What to do about drama class..? Please answer?
I'm a junior and, due to being put in a class I had already taken freshmen year, I had to be changed to another class; which turned out to be drama. Not only is it drama I, meaning my class is full of loud, obnoxious freshmen that don't pay attention to the teacher, but I just found out today that as being a part of the drama class, I HAVE to participate in the fall festival Shakespeare play (I can't act if my life depended on it) or I'll fail the course, and I need this credit. Anyway, that's not really the bad part, I'm sure being in a drama class I'll learn a few skills, but I need to be able to stay after school until 6:30 nearly every day in the week once the play gets closer for reherseal; which I just can't do. I have two AP classes, which means if I don't get home until 7 let's say, I'll need to eat, clean, do laundry, shower, and have nearly two hours of homework. I also have work which I haven't found out how I'm going to get around that. I just don't know what to do. You don't go to the reherseals, you fail the class. I can't switch out of the class as I already switched it once already, and I can't just blow it off because I don't want to fail, but I really need to find a way to balance my time and I just don't know how to. There isn't any way to switch out of drama, that was the only open elective that wasn't over full. My school has over a thousand people more than it was made for, so there's very few elective courses that I haven't already taken open, and drama was the only one open during the hour that I had the other class. Resolved Question: help English speakers... what do u think of this? correct it .. if needed plzzzzzzzzzzz?
After graduating from high school and earning a full tuition scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education, I have enrolled myself in the University of Jordan majoring in English Language and Literature and to graduate in February of 2009, I hold the excellent rank with a GPA of 3.69. I am thoroughly enjoying the experience, since literature has always been a subject that I have excelled at and found incredibly enjoyable. Over the past three years, I have become extremely interested in analyzing, interpreting and critiquing different works. I have become more confident in expressing my opinions, engaging in group discussion, and exploring different ideas and approaches to literature. After reading different plays written in Arabic, English and other languages at school, I wrote, directed and acted in my own play by which I earned a national golden medal in stage acting. My favorite playwright, putting Shakespeare aside, is Ibsen; I find his plays, such as Ghosts and Hedda Gabler, to be perfectly plotted and written. My love for writing led me to write for my university's newspaper. I focused in my writings on learning languages by interviewing international students and professors who teach English, Arabic and modern languages. This passion for languages has also led me to many different extra-curricular activities. For the past three years, I have participated in the Language Club, Conversation Club and the Language Partner Program, by which I have gained communication, oral and social skills. Helping non Arabs with Arabic helped me to have a better understanding of the Western culture and its background and improve my cultural understanding of English life and its history. I have a long-standing commitment to voluntary work. For several years I have held the position of an organizer in Zaha Center for Children, which helped me to improve my leadership skills. Besides volunteering to help children, I have always been interested in protecting the environment by participating in different activities and earning many thanks letters from various organizations such as The Jordanian Environment Committee. On the whole, I believe myself to be a sociable, dedicated and self-disciplined student, although I can be overly competitive at times. I believe that studying in the UK is going to benefit me greatly as it will enable me to gain valuable life skills. By studying in the UK; I'll have the opportunity to travel, meet new people, experience new cultures and above all, gain the skills, qualities and confidence needed to have a prosperous career in my home land.
