An airline passenger forced to cover his T-shirt because it displayed Arabic script has been awarded 240,000 dollars in compensation, campaigners said Monday. Raed Jarrar received the pay out on Friday from two US Transportation Security Authority officials and from JetBlue Airways following the August 2006 incident at New York's JFK Airport, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced. "The outcome of this case is a victory for free speech and a blow to the discriminatory practice of racial profiling," said Aden Fine, a lawyer with ACLU. Jarrar, a US resident, was apprehended as he waited to board a JetBlue flight from New York to Oakland, California, and told to remove his shirt, which had written on it in Arabic: "We will not be silent." He was told other passengers felt uncomfortable because an Arabic-inscribed T-shirt in an airport was like "wearing a T-shirt at a bank stating, I am a robber,'" the ACLU said. Jarrar eventually agreed to cover his shirt with another provided by JetBlue. He was allowed aboard but his seat was changed from the front to the back of the aircraft. Last week, nine Muslims, including three children, were ordered off a domestic US flight after passengers heard what they believed were suspicious remarks about security. Open Question: Perm Resident through asylum. Is it possible to visit sick parents?
I am a permanent resident, got residency through asylum due to my sexual orientation. Need to go back home to visit sick parents. Can I do it without jeopardizing my status? Lawyers are not very clear and are advising not to do so. No law regarding such is available. My life would be eventually endangered if I plan to live such life style back in that country. Just visiting and keeping a low profile will not cause a problem. Can I obtain prior approval from the appropriate authority? Thanks (more...)

Resolved Question: This is crucial: can anyone provide absolute proof that Israel stopped food/medical/electricity to Gaza strip?
We need undisputable evidence one way or the other. Reports conflict. Independent news sources like the Independent in the UK, etc, and other media like Al Jazeera (NOTE: with all it's recent recruits of Western high-profile journalists), report one thing. The other side here in the West does not mention it much if at all. We all MUST find out how Gaza residents have been treated over the years, to determine if they wake every day with such hunger and anger to fire rockets?? Then and only then will we know the W5 of this whole mess. Governments plant stories. That's the way it is. We need to get to the bottom of all this propoganda. Example: western media states 250 dead. Al Jazeera states I believe over 1,000. It's too many anyway, but it seems we can't get at the truth. (more...)

I have recently come into a bit of a family crisis involving money, complicated and full of drama. So I decided that I may just have to sell a collection I have going to help pay some bills... GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ? Glenwood Springs police arrested a suspected illegal immigrant Tuesday after he allegedly presented a social security card with a Rifle woman?s number on it at Glenwood Medical Associates. Police arrested Carlos Efren Suriano, 32, of Glenwood Springs, on suspicion of identity theft and forgery. According to an arrest affidavit, an employee at Glenwood Medical Associates said Suriano came in on Oct. 30 and gave her a social security card to pay for treatment. Problem was, the number actually belonged to a woman who lives in Rifle whose information was already in the clinic?s system, the affidavit says. The employee photocopied the social security card Suriano presented and an expired U.S. Resident Alien Card, the affidavit says. She then alerted the customer whose social security number was already in the clinic?s system. The customer told a detective about the allegations. Suriano had also managed to get a construction job with a Glenwood Springs company. Someone from Youtube sent me this clip but their profile has since been removed. All it said was "Third Place" - no artist, etc. and I don't even know if that's the title of the "song" (because it's not exactly a song) It has a dark overtone, and there's a little girl with an accent talking through it. It sounds to me like it comes from some sort of movie or video game soundtrack - maybe Resident Evil or Silent Hill? I have no idea, but I'd like to hear more so please give it a listen! I know this is a long shot but, eh, I'm not sure what else to do. I'm also posting it in Rock&Pop to see if anyone can identify it. Any hints are appreciated.
