A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
This disc could be more succinctly titled Christmas for Anglophiles. Few sounds are more British than the boy soprano-dominated Choir of King's College in Cambridge. And the group is heard--in some sections recorded live--in an actual Christmastide service amid the generous reverberation of a cathedral acoustic with little more than a tasteful though austere organ accompaniment. The repertoire isn't just conservative, traditional hymns and carols. One is harmonized by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and there are a number of contributions by contemporary composers Thomas Adès, Judith Weir, and John Tavener, all of which are probing, sincere, even personal examples of their art (and some are daringly liberated, harmonically speaking). The downside for some listeners--at least on repeated hearings--is that the entire service is heard, sermons and all. Others may take this in the spirit of a Paul McCreesh liturgical reconstruction, with congregational singing included. --David Patrick Stearns

Open Question: I can't start up my computer. Can anyone help me?
So, I accidentally leave my computer on while I am at school, and when I came back, it moved very sluggishly. Therefore, I decided to restart it. After restarting it, it froze right before the Windows Welcome screen and it showed an error.

É Sylvester Outley knows the harsh realities of drug addiction and street life, but he also understands the power of transformation. Once one of the ten most wanted criminals in Texas, Outley, a 1969 Goshen College graduate now is founder and director of SELF Inc., one of the largest drug rehabilitation programs in Philadelphia, Pa.
Outley, along with Ed Î57 and Theo Hartzler Yoder Î58 of Archbold, Ohio, and Kathleen Zehr Î40 of Lowville, N.Y., will receive Goshen CollegeÎs most prestigious alumni award Ë the Culture for Service Award, named after the collegeÎs motto Ë during Alumni Weekend Oct. 4-6.
Outley will talk to students and the public in a convocation at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 in the collegeÎs Church-Chapel; his speech is titled øFaith Works.Ó During the convocation, two Goshen College students will receive Barnabas Servant Leadership Awards for their on- and off-campus service to others.
By age 30, Outley had been arrested 86 times for drug involvement and swindling, and was eventually sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in 1955 Ë years of paradox which he later said were dehumanizing, yet gave him self-understanding, allowing him to transcend drugs and gain meaning in life.
He earned his G.E.D. and graduated from Goshen with a social work major. He earned masterÎs and doctorate degrees before founding the Socio-Emotional Learning and Family Center in Chester County, Pa., a therapeutic residential program for criminals, as well as Outley Professional Services, an outpatient drug and alcohol facility in Philadelphia, which became SELF.
SELF now has a $4 million annual budget, encompassing emergency shelters, peer outreach, transitional housing and community revitalization programs. More than just sobriety training, SELF teaches that addicts must use the basic life principles of love, respect, truth, honesty, care, compassion and forgiveness to rebuild individual lives.

A Guatemalan national who says he fled political persecution and a threat of execution in his native country to start a new life in America was sentenced Thursday to 2-1/2 years in federal prison for selling hundreds of out-of-state license plates to illegal immigrants on the Eastern Shore.
Authorities said at a sentencing hearing Thursday that they have linked 56 automobile accidents, including five fatalities, to vehicles with license plates sold by the defendant, Felipe Jesus Mazariegos-Perez, 44.
The operation, which Mazariegos-Perez ran from his trailer in Nelsonia in Accomack County for at least six years, netted him more than $200,000, an estimate the U.S. attorney's office says is conservative.
The authorities, including the FBI, the Virginia State Police and immigration agents, found only a little more than $2,000 in the trailer when they arrested Mazariegos-Perez and his wife earlier this year. They don't know where the rest of the money went.
Mazariegos-Perez's wife, Elvia Elizabel Soto-Ortiz, 26, was sentenced Thursday to nine months in prison for her role in the scheme.
The couple, both of whom face deportation, have five American-born children who will now be living with relatives, the attorneys in the case said.
Based in part on a Virginian-Pilot investigation in 2005, the authorities launched their own inquiry into the heightened number of vehicles with out-of-state plates, mostly from Tennessee and Mississippi, involved in serious crashes.
While investigating a prostitution ring on the Eastern Shore, the authorities were able to get informants to record conversations with Mazariegos-Perez and his wife about the sales of license plates.
After Virginia tightened its vehicle registration requirements, making it difficult for illegal immigrants to title cars, the migrant workers turned to states such as Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina and Georgia where it was easier to register cars under phony names. Mazariegos-Perez would drive to those states to buy the plates.
In many of the crashes, the drivers and passengers fled the scene, leaving no way for state troopers to trace the driver or vehicle owner.

Open Question: I have a few questions about the National Guard. I am asking here because I know how pushy recruiters can be..?
First a little about me: I currently work full time (1st shift) at a local plant. While I'm not crazy about the job, it helps me do what I need to do. Unfortunately thats the problem as well, It helps with the bare minimums but I need to do more to get ahead. I have always wanted to join the military but the timing just never worked out in my favor. I also have wanted to go to college, but again the opportunity hasn't presented itself until now. I'm now burdened by some credit debt and am considering joing the National Guard as a "cure all" solution. The bonus could help me pay down my debt while the guard would allow me to continue working and attend college at the same time. (Btw, my work would sustitute loss pay while away on active with the guard). Ok now to move on....
I have looked at the Guard website and it states the following as some of the benefits of joining (My questions are in the parenthesis):
-College First ? Up to $20K bonus + 2 yrs no deployment.
( Whish MOS's in the central Virginia area offer the highest bonuses {the $20k}?Can anyone qualify for this option{College first}?)
-100% Tuition Assistance ? Up to 100% tuition/nearly $20K over 4 yrs.
(Is this just reimbursement or do they pay it upfront? Also it states "Up to 100%", what would qualify for the full 100%)
-Montgomery GI Bill ? Up to $329/mo + up to $350/mo ARNG Kicker.
(Do guard members have to pay into this to recieve it? How soon after enlistment is one titled to recieve this? What do you have to do to get the kicker?)
-Student Loan Repay up to $20K
(I don't currently have any student loans...)
-$20K for certain jobs or prior service.
(Again, which jobs does this pertain to? Im not prior service)
-Up to $20K Enlistment bonus
(Is this the same as the above statement? they have i listed seperately)

Yes I would be doing this for my coutry as well. I am now 27 and not living with my parents. This has been a dream of mine for a long time and now it seems like it may be the best option. I'm just looking for more info... thanks

ok i have seen these movies, but cant remember the names......
1) where a secret service agent falls in love w. the presidents daughter
2) there were to mountain climbers and they were sponsored to climb everest. one dies their and changes the other dudes life
3) a pilot that crashes and his buddy is killed, and he has to save himself......(there are probably a lot of those around.

Open Question: Where can I download scans of Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Volume 7?
I only got Volumes 1-6 and living in such a far off country you can't just purchase this title at my local comicbook shop. Heck we don't even have a local comicbook shop...
