On my laptop, my CDs, online radio, youtube clips play at a nice loud volume...loud enough for me to hear in next room. But DVD Movies are so quiet that I have to attach speakers, and then that isn't even loud enough. I'm running Vista on IdeaPad Y510 (Lenovo) I think I've turned every button up that I can find to get a louder volume. Downloaded latest drivers as well. (more...)

Hi there. I just can't seem to find what is causing my computer problem and if there is a fix. The symptoms: When I play some of the short video clips, or an online game, sometimes even while typing in word...my CPU seems to start running, I get a humming noise coming from the CPU...not my speakers, actually from the CPU. It will start humming or running for a few minutes, very annoying. If a video clip is running, the video clip will stop, the audio on the clip will stop, most of the time resulting in me having to reload a new page and click on the video clip again. Also, there are times where I will get his horrid screeching sound coming from my speakers, like the audio is ripping, tripping, skipping, hard to explain in words...it just sounds like something is trying to rip apart or something...something like the hip hop artist do with their records...that rip rip rip thing going on. Anyway, if anyone has any sort of idea of what may be the cause of the problem, any fix or advice as such would be greatly appreciated. Also, just to mention...I had another computer in the past with a very similar problem...someone told me it was a heat sink fan and power supply that needed to be replaced which I did, I think it worked. I've also read that video and audio drivers may need to be updated, which I think I did, but who knows...this conflict and that conflict...a little to technical for me...anyway, any insight to my dilemma is appreciated. Thx, Sandy It seems whats been pointed out... the fan, sound card and harddrive or the motherboard going bad are all good possibilities. I think I am going to start with the fan...next time that sound happens, I am going to see where is it actually comming from on the CPU. I have a lot of stuff around my CPU, so that is why I can't turn it around that easily. I'll then take it from there. I have the backup thing going on...appreciate that...Everything else works just fine...it's just this one problem. Bought a new flat screen. I have older speakers with the red & black 'clips'. My buddy told me to go to RadioShack and get solderless RCA plugs, which I did. I took my speaker wire and connected it per the instructions, but am getting no sound. I took the copper colored wire & attached it to the center post, and the silver colored to the ground. I clipped the silver to the black clip, and the copper to the red clip. Was I right or am I missing something? Other sites have gotten too technical and I just want my speakers to work. Thanks to anyone who can help. I did have them hooked directly to the tv. In all the forums I visited noone realyy gave answers, only questions, and the majority of them were car audio. Okay, so I have an xbox 360 and I recently decided I wanted to play it in my room on my desktop monitor. My computer is a Dell XPS 420, the monitor is a 24" Hd. The speakers are very basic, they just clip on to the bottom of the monitor. The only jacks they have are for 2 headphones. So i got an XBOX VGA cable for Christmas to help me out with this. Video works great but I can't get any audio. i went out, bought the adapter I needed that apparently was missing from my package (the vga cable was bought second hand). I also got an extension for this so It could reach my computer from the monitor, but still no luck. I've looked up countless tutorials about how to set up the "line in" setting on windows. But all the ones I find that refer to vista's set up don't seem to apply to my version somehow. Basically, i guess my problems lie mostly with the line-in function. I can't figure out how to make it default or change the volume controls or anything. I'm starting to think this may be a common problem with the XPS. So if anyone could please give me a very clear run down of what to do, or has a link to an actual useful tutorial that would be great. Hi, I recently ordered Onkyo CR-725DAB amp/receiver/cdplayer micro system without the speakers. It puts out 50w IEC per channel at 4ohms. I also looked around quite a bit and decided on Monitor Bronze BR2 speakers that are rated 100w with nominal impedance of 6ohms (90db efficiency). The question is whether the amp is underpowered compared to the speakers? Will I clip and burn the speakers (tweeters)? Monitor says to use amps powered between 30 and 100 to match these speakers. But then again this is RMS power. My Onkyo amp is rated at 50w IEC - so is that like 70 watts RMS? If not, is clipping an issue? Moreover, even if the amp is underpowered, the speakers are 6 ohms vs 4 ohm amp, meaning they will be easier to drive for the amp. On top of that, the speakers are rated at 90db/w/m sensitivity - which means they are efficient and thus easier to drive than less efficient speakers. These points give me comfort that the speakers should be a good match. Am I wrong in my assumptions/analysis? Please advise. I can't reply so will follow up here - thanks for the responses. The Ampt is rated at 0.08% THD (distortion) while the CD player is at 0.005% THD. Can you point me to where you got 0.5%? (more...)

After turning on my computer, after a while random audio begins to play through my speakers from no known source. There are music clips, interviews, jokes and all kind of random weird things coming through, I cant find where to turn it off and the only way to make it stop is by turning off the computer, or muting the speakers. Closing all windows and pages and everything does not stop these sounds and its really annoying if im trying to watch a video or music or anything. If anybody can offer an explaination (and hopefully a remedy?) it would be great ;) Cheers. (more...)

hello, i am a drummer. i just started playing, and i am starting to put new youtube videos up. I have a macbook. I am using imovie 08 to record me drumming to a song, but the drums are loud, therefor i cannot just use the music that is coming out of the speakers in the video. So i add the music in later using imovie, but then, for some reason, the music unsyncs towards the middle, the drums are off time, [ i know its not me, because i am listening to it in the headphones and i am on time, its just the computer], and the music unsyncs so the drums dont go along with it and it sounds sloppy.
