I live north of Houston, and there are some large, dead spots of lawn in the backyard. Not just dead grass, but open areas of dirt/sand. Considering that it's January and the grass isn't doing much of anything, is there anything that can be done at this point? Would putting grass seed down make sense, or should this wait until Spring, and if so, what would be the earliest time to plant? The backyard HAD mostly St. Augustine, but it looks like a majority of bermuda has now started to grow (shorter, more golf-course-appearing grass.) I am looking for the death date and place buried for : Robert Arland Thomas Sr. aka Bob white male b June 3, 1868 in Anglesey, Wales m. Catherine Inez Broady (b 2-29-1879 in Oregon) They lived in Canada, Washington State, & Oregon. She died in Canada, He remarried and moved to Defuniak Springs, Walton county, Florida, USA. He married Annie Elizabeth Custer. They were living in Defuniak Springs in 1918, 1920 Census shows him in East Defuniak Springs, resided at 127 Golf Links Road. the 1930 and 1945 census show him still living there in Precint 20, Walton County, Defuniak Springs. But after that I lose track of him and relatives say he died about 1955 in Defuniak Springs, Fl. Any help would sure be appreciated! (more...)

at my school, we have preseason sports trips over spring break. i play golf, which is a spring sport. i feel pressure to go on the trip, because *most* people go on the training trips, but i don't really feel like it would be the right thing to do. this is because i'm still a beginner at golf, the trip costs a lot of money, and i'm really not at a level where i'm exceptionally dedicated and skilled at the sport. i think i could improve a lot if i were to just practice by myself over spring break. however, going on the trip would show interest, and one of my acquaintances keeps on reminding me to sign up. i don't want to feel like i'm missing an opportunity, but i still feel like i wouldn't benefit from the trip the same way more experienced players would. what do you think?
