Open Question: trying to learn spanish need study help?
im learning spanish right now and its going ok but im still having a hard time holding on to some of the information im learning. what study tips can anyone give me. also right now im using a computer program its pretty good and im also using free translation.com it helps with sentence building. like if i want to say can i be here later it gives you the translation(puede estoy aqui posterior). its very help full because it actually gives you the sentence they way you would say it as if you were talking to someone instead of the way the book shows you. but can that site or another site help with pronunciation. or is there a site that you can type in a sentence in english and get the translation in spanish. also i want to get my sign language back. when i was born my hearing developed slow for some reason and as i grew up it got better so i learned to sign at an early age and later when my hearing started to get better i stopped signing and never did it again. i want to learn again because i enjoyed it but didn't appreciated what i had. is there a site to learn signing again. thanks for the help right now im all over the place. i have a computer program, using free translation.com,using a book, watching tv and listening to radio and getting help from friends so im trying every way. Open Question: Undergraduate in aeronautical (astronautical) engineering?
I'm currently studying in Quebec (cegep) in pure and applied science. It's the equivalent of grade 12 and first year university. I was wondering if anyone knew of any universities that offered a good program in aeronautical engineering. That would be very helpful. And also, not something like MIT since, well, I do have to pay for it. Thanks! (more...)

Open Question: Will you please proofread my petition to my university's faculty? It will save my life. ?
I am writing a petition to my university's faculty, and I'd really like your comments/feedback/advice after reading it. All comments/advice/feedback are extremely appreciated!!! Thanks so much in advance! I respectfully request that the Faculty reconsider the decision of requiring me to withdraw from the program in which I am enrolled. The Faculty should heavily consider the position in which I am now placed after requiring me to withdraw from my program. Although I have undoubtedly not earned credit for two units throughout my first term at UW, I am deeply confident, and I guarantee, that I possess the perseverance, determination, motivation and competence to earn the credit for, and meet all academic requirements of, these two unearned units by the end of this current term. I attribute my previous term?s poor academic performance to the off-campus location at which I was living and the greatly dire circumstances it created. From the beginning of the term, I was required to take public transportation for an hour-and-half every time I was expected to be in class, while the vast majority of nearly all first-year students had the advantage of either living on residence, in a nearby off-campus location or at home surrounded with family support. I was not only far away from the support of my own home and family, but I was also far away from the university for which I left home. As a result of this great inconvenience, it was extremely difficult for me to not only have the time and means to study comfortably and efficiently, but it was also nearly impossible to stay focused on my academic interests, priorities and opportunities. I recall that I was always unable to attend extra help sessions anywhere on campus due to how far away I was from the university. This term, however, only if the opportunity is allowed, I now have the chance to redeem the unfortunate outcomes of my first-term experience. I am now living on residence and being close to all buildings around campus will undeniably greatly help in my success this term. My time will be managed much more efficiently as I will not waste copious amounts of time on public transportation every day. I will easily be able to attend all classes on time by living on residence. Now that I am living on campus, I certainly have the motivation to attend extra help sessions anywhere and anytime around campus. I will be much more capable of staying on top of all readings, homework and assignments throughout the term, and will consequently not only be much more familiar with test and exam material, but will have even more time for studying the material and reviewing it a second time. I am now also more familiar with general university life and the experience it offers, and will be much more likely to succeed in my academics now that it is my second term and living on campus. With my deep motivation, determination, competence and perseverance, along with living right on campus, I can safely say that I guarantee having eliminated the causes of last term?s academic performance and I am now able and willing to earn the required credits and academic requirements needed to pursue my degree and earn it. Despite the deeply inconvenient circumstances hindering my success throughout my first term, I am nonetheless able to understand, and have great respect for, the regulations attributed to academic standing implemented by the Faculty. However, I do passionately and deeply believe that there are extenuating circumstances which the Faculty should now consider when re-evaluating its initial decision. I respectfully ask that the Faculty also consider my plan for improvement this term when re-evaluating its initial decision and ultimately give me the permission and opportunity to remain at UW this term and for terms to come to be able to pursue the degree I have chosen to pursue. Open Question: Would someone please help me proofread my appeal letter?
I am appealing my dismissal from the University of Wisconsin Stout. If I could get a few tips or advice or feedback on any part of this letter, it would be greatly appreciated! I would like to start out by saying that I take my academic career at UW Stout very seriously. I take full responsibility for the grades that I received this past semester; however, I have made the decision to appeal my dismissal from the University for a few reasons, which I believe were unusual and beyond my control. I was born with a disability called Spina Bifida. Although my case is rather mild, and I can function without many limitations, it has caused me to struggle with math courses that I have taken in the present and the past. During the fall semester, I was enrolled in math 110. I honestly put in my best effort towards the class. Unfortunately, I realized too late that math 110 was above the level I should have started out with. As a result, I did not pass the course, which significantly hindered my cumulative GPA below the requirement. This being my first semester at Stout, the stress of struggling in my math class while attempting 16 credits and making the decision to change my major, was a mistake for my individual learning needs that reflected negatively in my grades. In no way am I trying to make excuses, and I wholly own the fact that I did make a mistake in choosing a math class that was too difficult to start. I know that not only do I belong at UW Stout, but I can succeed in my future school work. Since the fall semester has ended, I have had much time to reflect upon my previous academic performance. I have been in contact with my program advisor, and I plan to keep her informed on this situation so that I can best follow any advice she may have for me. As for my math class, I am now aware that I should have started out taking math 010. Although I struggle in math courses, I know that I can successfully complete the math requirement of my education, by starting out at a lower level and relearning some of the basic math skills that I have forgotten. Also, instead of taking my math courses during the usual academic school year, I have decided to take math 010 alone during the summer session. Doing this will allow me to focus solely on learning the math skills I need to be productive and move on to higher levels of this subject. I am willing and have already looked into the math lab in Harvey Hall for help, as well as acquiring a tutor to help me with my studies. Another action I have taken to ensure I will succeed during the spring semester is a lighter credit load. I am currently enrolled in 13 credits worth of classes. I strongly believe this will let me have more time concentrate on each class individually. The fall semester was not an accurate representation of how well I can achieve my goals of doing well in my classes. I am asking for another semester at Stout to prove myself because I am a determined and motivated student. My failure this semester was a onetime happening, which will not happen again. For my supporting documentation of my math struggles, Dr. so and so will be faxing a letter to the Dean of Students? office by January 16th, 2009. Dr. blah has been my neurosurgeon since 2001, and has worked with me on this situation. (more...)

Open Question: Im a highschooler who wants to persure a career in 2D animation. I need advice from a 2D Animator!?
First, Id like to inform you a little about myself. I've been drawing for a while now and I think I've developed some pretty good drawing skills considering Im only 16. My line of work is just sketches and more sketches of people and anatomical figures. I get creative with my drawings and a lot of my 'finished work' goes along the lines of illustration that I do on the computer with my tablet. Im awful at traditional painting, but Im quite confident in my drawing skills when it comes to drawing from life. Especially the human figure! But I work with the human figure blind more often than I do from life. I look to Jack Hamm's 'Drawing The Head and Figure' as well as Andy Smith's "Drawing Dynamic Comics."(Which teaches about drawing superhero comic figures) I try to mesh the two so that I can one day animate my own figures similar to those of the more realistic comicbooks you see on the shelves. I've also grown up looking at movies in the analytical aspect, scrutinizing pieces of the film to appreciate scenes and the storyboard that go into the film. My influences to persue in animation were DEFINATELY Batman the Animated Series and cartoon network itself! That as well as a few anime with either a very moving narrative or astounding animation qaulity. (Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Ghost In The Shell..) And even a few disney favorites... Oliver in Company, Aristo Cats, Balto, Lion King. Here are examples of a few edited works from my sketchbook. http://i39.tinypic.com/2ex26vd.png http://i41.tinypic.com/yfhq8.png http://i40.tinypic.com/2ilo6q0.png http://i43.tinypic.com/14iizk5.png http://i42.tinypic.com/axi80m.png http://i40.tinypic.com/5b2tlv.jpg (this one is a quick, maybe 15 to 20 minute drawing of my little brother laying down on the couch) My drawings niches right now dont fit what I'd like to be able to do in the future, (Im having difficulties in drawing guys! Especially their muscles!) but Im working hard to up my skills before its time to send applications into college. (Im in the 11th grade) Im very informed on portfolio requirements and what schools would like to see because Im in my highschool's 'Senior Portfolio Class' which is a class to prepare Senior's portfolios for college. Im an advanced art student, as well as 2 other Juniors, and we're in it togethor. My grades, Ill have you know, are awful. I go to summer school once every year because I always end up failing one of my classes and I have to make up the credit so I can graduate. And the class that did that to me last year was french, which I couldnt take over the summer because they dont offer it at my highschool. So Im screwed when it comes to impressing a college with my '3 years of a language' thing. Im REALLY depending on art school at this point! I know I should not have done that because it shows a horrible work ethic, but drawing is the only thing I like to do! (besides play videogames, haha) I want to become an animator! (I've got a lightbox, a scanner and my trusty tablet) And I aspire to continue a career into 2D! I've looked into A LOT of schools and I cant find a school with a truly impressive curriculum in 2D animation. (I know its actually just animation where they teach you both 3D and 2D, but I couldnt find a good batch of classes for 2D in each of the programs of study for the colleges I was looking into.) BUT... I did find SCAD. Savannah College of Art and Design. (http://www.scad.edu) And their student work is very nice, I didnt see much 2D, but when I looked at their classes, it was a pretty nice list for 2D! I understand now that SCAD is supposedly a very impressive school, and I'd really like to get in! But my questions are... Do I have any other options? Is my work or my plans right now only going to hurt me? I dont know about what its like getting a job as a 2D animator or what an average day is for somebody working as one. Or even what the chances are for me to work for a company that'll give me decent pay to live on and pay future debt! I need some intel on somebody who works as a 2D animator. Im ready for a long road ahead of me until I really have the skills and experience needed to be a truly magnificent animator, but I want to make sure that when I train for it in college that I'll find work to get myself out there. I understand I wont be a big time animator or something straight out of college, but I want to know places or companies to work that I can do what I love and get more experience. Whats a good company or place to start out with? I dont even know if I have the right mindset right now! I feel blind! I know nothing about the animation career other than little things on how to actually animate. Last but not least, whats your story on how you became a 2D animator? If you read this, thankyou so so much. Im positive that I and many other students out there have these same questions too. I read online that pay for 2D animation is looked at as a bad living, but it honestly de Im sorry this is so long. If you know a different place where I can contact 2D animators, drop me a line! I am writing a petition to my university's faculty, and I'd really like your comments/feedback/advice after reading it. All comments/advice/feedback are extremely appreciated!!! Thanks so much in advance! I want the Faculty to reconsider the decision of requiring me to withdraw from the program in which I am enrolled. Although I have undoubtedly not earned credit to two units throughout my first term at UW, I am deeply confident, and I guarantee, that I possess the perseverance, determination, motivation and competence to earn the credit to and meet all academic requirements of these two unearned units throughout this current term. It is an extremely known fact that the very first term for any university student is certainly a great transition, and the previous term was no different for me. Coming from a very easy high school, I do admit that I entered university being quite unfamiliar to the work load associated with my program. However, despite my unfamiliarity I was nonetheless, and I undeniably do remain, competent enough to not only complete my two unearned units, but to complete the rest of the degree I have chosen to pursue. I also attribute my previous term?s academic performance to the off-campus location at which I was living. I was required to take public transportation for an hour-and-half every time I was expected to be in class, while the vast majority of nearly all first-year students had the advantage of either living on residence, in a nearby off-campus location or at home with family support. Despite my inconvenient circumstances during my first term, I am nonetheless able to understand, and have great respect for, the regulations attributed to academic standing implemented by the Faculty. However, I do passionately believe that the Faculty has failed to consider basing its decision on my attitude and character as a student along with last term?s academic performance and the reasons behind it. As a result, I do ask the Faculty to reconsider its decision and essentially give me the permission to remain at UW this term and be able to pursue the rest of the degree I have chosen to pursue. Thank you a whole lot, bob_berwanger!! I deeeeeppplllyyyy appreciate everything you've written. Thank you so much. The major is biomedical sciences, and yes, usually they would put me in conditional standing until I pulled my grades back up, but they only do that if I failed a max. of 1.5 units. I failed 2 units, so at that point I'm required to withdraw for a year, apply for re-admission, then start all over. So yeah, I'm in a pretty ugly situation... but I sincerely really really thank you so much for all your advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're basically saving my life. =) Thanks (again) Thanks a lot to you too, Szivesen!!!!!! I'm going to use what you've advised as well, and I really deeply appreciate all your help!!!!!!!! Thank you guys so much. =) I hope it'll pass through in the end. Opiniononly: You seem to be very disrespectful with that tone of yours. It also seems you don't realize that you're not answering this question to condemn me for something or the other... Listen here then. Couldn't you have responded more respectfully? Couldn't you have pulled your manners together before typing up your response? Ha! Just because I wrote "the faculty failed to consider" you're taking it as a cue to defend yourself. Perhaps you'd "zero in" on that statement because you want to sit around all day feeling grand about being "VP, admissions and advising, faculty" and that the faculty doesn't fail to consider. Well let me tell you this: the faculty DOES fail to consider. And you can't change the fact, whoever you are. So as disrespectful as this sounds: Shut. Up. I changed that phrase way before you posted your little loser of a comment anyway, but I just thought I'd give you what you deserve in terms of respect so that YOU take responsibility for your actions.
