Henry V: Original Soundtrack Recording (1989 Film)
Henry V: Original Soundtrack Recording (1989 Film) Composer Patrick Doyle's first film score accompanied Kenneth Branagh's first movie as director. For both, Henry V (1989) is a triumph. Branagh's vision of the play is a far darker, more realistic depiction than the morale-boosting patriotism of Laurence Olivier's 1945 classic. Doyle's score had to follow in the footsteps of William Walton, but undaunted, the first-timer rose to the challenge magnificently. Briefed by the director to follow "Shakespeare's golden words" and be "as bold as possible," Doyle produced music of epic scope, lyrical passion, and descriptive imagination. The score has a real flavor of opera--a trait that would become familiar in all of this composer's later work--as Doyle underscores the great speeches (notably the St Crispin's Day speech) with a tangible sense of drama, but one that is always sensitive to the nuances of the words. Set-pieces such as the death of Falstaff and the visceral Battle of Agincourt stand out, but the entire score feels operatically through-composed, unified by Doyle's strong instinct for melody. The melodramatic climax of his "Non nobis, Domine" (that's the composer singing at the beginning) unashamedly rivals "Land of Hope and Glory" for--as Branagh puts it--"hummability." Quite how they coaxed Sir Simon Rattle and the CBSO into the studio remains a mystery, but the result is one of the best performed, most orchestrally luxurious soundtracks ever recorded. Patrick Doyle's later scores may be more refined (try Hamlet, for example), but none quite match the sheer exuberance of this debut. --Mark Walker, Amazon.co.uk

Shakespeare - The Winter's Tale / Royal Shakespeare Company, Barbican Theatre
Shakespeare - The Winter's Tale / Royal Shakespeare Company, Barbican Theatre At the court of King Leontes of Sicilia, Polixenes, King of Bohemia, is nearing the end of a visit. He is persuaded by Hermione, Leontes's Queen, to prolong his stay. Leontes becomes convinced that the two of them are guilty of adultery and that the child Hermione is expecting is not his. He tries to have Polixenes poisoned but Camillo, entrusted with the murder, reveals the plot to Polixenes and the two of them flee to Bohemia. This fuels Leontes' rage. He has Hermione imprisoned, and when she gives birth to a daughter he orders the child to be cast out into the wilderness. At Hermione's trial, the sacred Oracle of Apollo at Delphi declares that she is innocent and that Leontes is a tyrant who will die without an heir if his lost child is not found. When news is brought of the death of their other child, the boy Mamillius, Hermione collapses with grief. When he hears that she, too, is dead, Leontes is overcome with remorse. Hermione's baby, abandoned in Bohemia, is found by shepherds, who call her Perdita and bring her up as their own. Time moves on by sixteen years, and Perdita has grown in a lovely young woman. Prince Florizel, Polixenes' son, has fallen in love with her and, believing her to be a humble shepherd's daughter, plans to marry her without his father's consent. However, Polixenes discovers the plan and the young couple are forced to elope, to Sicilia, accompanied by Camillo. They arrive at Leontes's court where the penitent King has spent the last sixteen years in atonement, and Perdita's true identity is discovered. To crown the celebrations, Paulina takes Leontes to see a statue, which has been made in memory of Hermione. With Antony Sher as Leontes, Alexandra Gilbreath as Hermione, and the Royal Shakespeare Company, performed at the Barbican Theatre, London. "Greg Doran's TRIUMPHANT production of the Winter's Tale" -Sunday Telegraph "A MASTERFUL version of one of the very greatest plays…not to be missed. Sher's Leontes…a performance of overwhelming psychotic intensity…THRILLING." -Daily Mail "Powerfully affecting theatre…that sets the stage ablaze."-The Daily Telegraph "One of Sher's most intense, most fully achieved performances…its greatest subtly lies in portraying the side of Leontes that Leontes doesn't know.""MAGNIFICENT…Doran and Jones' BRILLIANT imagination."-The Sunday Times "Alexandra Gilbreath's STUNNING Hermione…the supreme insight of both actress and director is that Hermione feels sorrow rather than rancor for her diseased husband." -The Guardian

Open Question: I have a degree, am I underpaid? ?
I have been out of college for 4 years now....I cannot find decent well paid employment! I have tried finding jobs on my own and I have gone through staffing agencies. I seem to get very low offers. My current position is at a property management company in Charlotte. I got this job through a staffing agency. I was mislead to begin with by the recruiter, she made the job sound MUCH better than it really was. I am assuming she just wanted to make her commission and told me what ever she could to get me to take the job. It is an admin position, I can rarely ever get anything else. I spend my days answering complaint phone calls and stuffing envelopes. My employer is VERY cheap and keeps giving me other duties. I do a little accounting, I work with closings, a little of everything in the office. My degree is a B.A. from a liberal arts school. I majored in PR and I have a minor in Theatre. I currently make $13.00 an hour (yes $13.00 an hour, you read it correctly). That is barely enough to pay basic living expenses! I went on salary.com and I searched my job, the results show that I am in the lowest 10% when it comes to pay. The benefits are bad and so is the vacation and sick time. It really makes me angry when I see or hear of a high school grad (or less) getting a great paying job with no degree and no experience! Where can I find a better job or wager to get paid more? Resolved Question: I told her how I felt online.... should I go see her tonight?!? Talk?!? I DONT KNOW!! Ughhh Please please help?
Ah I am so sick of falling in love with females that DONT KNOW WHAT THEY WANT! I told her how I felt on fb.... she said "Im straight" and thats it... I mean my status was "She wants what she thinks she cant have" and she asked me what it meant! Uggghhh!!! BUUT well read this then please please help me: Were both 18. We both have never been with a guy or girl. However I have been in love with a woman and she knew that. So I am openly bicurious and she knows. She loves commenting on it alot! We recently travelled together just the 2 of us alone, to England and Scotland on holiday for 2 weeks! Over there I flirted with her like hell! But before going she knew I liked her: I was once like "your hot Id do you" and she replied: "yeah Id do you too...maybe we should be fcuk buddies!" (the 1st part was sort of a low semi-serious sighing type of tone and the second part was jokingly) 1 day ago K back to the UK trip: she asked me to massage her back and I did pretty well... then she'd change in front of me and Id say things like "as hot as your body is, Id like to watch TV..." (she was in the way of me watching One Tree Hill) also we slept in the same bed BUT, A HUGE HAULTING BUT: I would say "sorry I must stop flirting with you" and she'd say "nah I'll tell you when you are.." and she would be like in a joking way "dont try anything" and "Im straight, though I do find women attractive" and stuff like that. She NEVER made a move and I didnt coz I dont want to face rejection which is what I KNOW will happen!! 1 day ago AND YET, when we got back home she asked if I wanted to go watch Twilight and I said sure! Expecting MORE friends. Then I picked her up and IT WAS JUST THE 2 OF US! You'd think after 2 weeks and her knowing Im attracted to her and her NOT being attracted to me she would NOT want to spend more time alone! I mean why is she making me sooo confused?? I think she just likes my company. Is that being niave?? 1 day ago And besides the physical, which is all I have described we had THEE most amazing trip together! Walking the streets of London alone at night... Having candyfloss and popcorn in Hyde Park during the Xmas fair... Watching theatre shows like Phantom and Chicago... She would sleep on me, on the plane... She held my hand all through the London Dungeons...she was terrified it was soooo adorable! I know she likes me!! Why is she denying it????? We havnt seen each other since the online thing... should I go see her??? sorry about the 1 day ago thing (more...)

Open Question: What songs should I choose for a musical theatre audition?
I'm auditioning for an amateur theatre company's production of The Producers. I've never auditioned for a theatre company before and I'm not a very good singer, I'll admit, but I'm hoping to get into the dance chorus. However, singing auditions are compulsory for everyone, so here I am. I'm female. I need one character song and one slower song. As I said I'm not a great singer and don't have much range so I'm looking for something that I can pull off and make sound good at the same time. I have absolutely no idea where to start... I'm thinking Penny's part in 'On the Rise' from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, but that's just a stab in the dark. Help, please! Thanks. (more...)

Open Question: quality sound or loud sound?
I plan to buy a home theatre for my 15 X 15 room . My budget is around Rs.12000. The philips model has an output of about 1000 RMS in its 5.1 channel system. However, the impact of bass seems to be very negligible and the surround sound effect seems to be missing. there seems to be almost no dissection of sounds of different instruments in systems of any of the companies. all give very high pitched high volume sound rather than the quality of sound. What should i be doing ?? (more...)
